“My parents told me they were getting a divorce the day before Christmas. I was 11 years old. And on Christmas day, they gave me a Handycam and I just totally lost myself in that — just filming whatever I could. But [filmmaking has] always been a thing that I turn to when I don’t know how to feel,” Madison Hamburg said. Madison is a SCAD grad, previously earning his B.F.A. in film and television in 2014.
In the third episode of “Bookmarked and Dogeared,” we sit down with Madison to discuss his experiences at SCAD and the process of creating his newly released documentary series on HBO, “Murder on Middle Beach.”
The series investigates his mother’s murder and turns the camera back on his family to reveal what happened. The full four-part series is available to stream on HBO Max.
“Bookmarked and Dogeared” is a podcast about storytellers from across different majors at SCAD. Our goal is to share the passionate creative work issuing from the pens of students and recent alumni. We want to give up-and-coming writers the chance to share their stories and take part in an ongoing conversation about what the creative process means to them.
Check back again Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, for the fourth episode of “Bookmarked and Dogeared” with Sylvie Baggett. Sylvie is a writer, editor and recent SCAD grad, whose writing has been published in Savannah Magazine. She’s recently undertaken an internship with Bust Magazine.
