“It’s kind of this running joke that I have with myself that I keep making screenplays that have to do with a really sad old man,” Nicole Barley said, a former film and television student, who previously spent two years at SCAD.

Recently, Nicole’s debut short film “Roots” has been accepted to the New York Lift-Off Film Festival and The National Film Festival for Talented Youth. As well, her prose writing has been published by a variety of both New York-based publishing houses and web publications.

In the second episode of “Bookmarked and Dogeared,” we sit down with Nicole to discuss how she approaches writing for the screen and the page. Is there a difference in the inspiration for either medium? How does she use writing to relate her own experiences to a wider audience?

“Bookmarked and Dogeared” is a podcast about writers from across all majors at SCAD. Our goal is to share the passionate creative works issuing from the pens of students and recent alumni. We want to give up-and-coming writers the chance to share their stories and take part in an ongoing conversation about what the creative process means to them.

Check back again Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, for the third episode of “Bookmarked and Dogeared” with Sylvie Baggett. Sylvie is a writer, editor and recent SCAD grad, who’s writing has been published in Savannah Magazine. She’s recently undertaken an internship with Bust Magazine.

We are always seeking new writers to interview. If you know a writer who would be a great fit for the podcast, email social@scaddistrict.com
