New campus possible
An article in the Dallas Morning News indicated that the Savannah College of Art and Design is looking to expand geographically. The report mentioned that SCAD representatives have visited a number of cities, states and countries in order to research possible sites for a new campus. Two locations that were looked at include Dallas and San Diego. A decision about the potential acquisition might be announced some time in the next few months.
Professors exhibit work
Two Savannah College of Art and Design professors will have work on display this month in the 2Car Garage Art Gallery on 30 W. Broughton St. The exhibition “Random Cinder Blocks Digitally Mastered: Work by Todd Schroeder and Craig Drennen” began Fri., April 4 and lasts until Monday, April 28. The work is conceptually based; Schroder’s work was inspired by a cinder block that was present in his backyard and studio. Drennen’s work was inspired by the movie “Supergirl,” released in 1984. The gallery’s normal business hours are Monday through Saturday from 12-6 p.m.
Visiting artist Gerald Scarfe
The Savannah College of Art and Design illustration department will host satirical cartoonist Gerald Scarfe on Tuesday, April 15 at the River Club on 3 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Scarfe was born in London and briefly attended the Royal College of Art in London. After his time there he became a cartoonist. The animation in Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” film was designed and directed by Scarfe. Recently he collaborated with Ozzy Osbourne to design a guitar for charity. His work has been featured in numerous films, books and periodicals. It has also been shown in various international exhibitions.
