Record-setting day
The Savannah College of Art and Design’s men’s baseball team beat Purchase College in a score of 29-3 on Friday, March 21, setting many records as they played. The 29 total runs surpassed the previous record of 23 set against Toccoa Falls College in 1995. The 26 margin of victory record also surpassed the previous of 20. The 27 hits were a record as well, exceeding the previous of 24.
Soccer coach departs
John Rootes, former head coach of the men’s soccer team at SCAD, has been hired to coach at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fl. During his four years at SCAD, Rootes developed a 47-26-2 (.627) record and led the college to the NAIA Region XIV Tournament title in three consecutive seasons. In a statement issued by Lynn University Rootes said, “It’s tough anytime you leave a program you’ve invested yourself in, but there are many great players remaining and I’ve definitely left that program in better shape than when I arrived. I just have to thank everyone for supporting the men’s soccer program while I was there.”
Painting department Open Studio Night
The painting department will host guests at Alexander Hall to view the work of more than 65 artists. M.F.A. candidates Charles Clary and Akira Horikawa, both recipients of the New York City Workspace Opportunity, will be among those whose work is on display. Live music and refreshments will be provided. The event is April 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
