Seventy-five San Diego State University students arrested

A five-month investigation into drug use at San Diego State University led to 96 arrests, 75 of which were students of San Diego State. A death caused by a cocaine overdose led to the undercover investigation where at least 18 of the students were arrested with a warrant for selling to undercover agents. Authorities seized 2 kilograms of cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana and other drugs, along with guns and $60,000 in cash.

Gore Verbinski to direct BioShock

“Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski is set to direct a movie version of “BioShock” (Take-Two Interactive) announced May 9. Universal Pictures will make the movie and, as of the announcement, John Logan was in discussion to write the screenplay. Logan has also written “Gladiator” and “Sweeney Todd.” In a statement from 2K Games, President Christoph Hartmann said, “BioShock fans appreciate the depth and complexity of the game … Gore is an avid video gamer and true fan of BioShock. That was extremely important to us in deciding to move forward with this project.”

News Corp ends bid to buy newspaper

Ruper Murdoch’s News Corp ended its $580-million bid to purchase Long Island Newspaper, Newsday, after rival bids from Cablevision and Mortimer Zuckerman, owner of New York Daily News, forced the price higher than News Corp wanted to pay. News Corp is the multi-national media conglomerate that operates FOX brands, MySpace, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post and dozens of other newspapers, television stations, magazines and book publishers around the world.
