Orphan Works Act passes House and Senate
The Senate Judiciary Committee passed S 2913, the Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008. The committee passed the bill with an amendment by Senator Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who introduced the bill to the Senate last month. The House passed HR 5889 two weeks ago. The much-debated bill would limit liability of users of copyrighted works whose owners cannot be identified and would release them from paying any damages or fees to the owner should they arise.

Nine projectors stolen
Six projectors were stolen from Crites Hall and three from Anderson Hall over the weekend according to college security. “We are currently working with the SCMPD on the investigation. They brought in their forensics team and processed the scenes,” said Jeff Smith, security manager at SCAD. If anyone has information, Smith asks that they contact college security. “The thieves didn’t just steal projectors from the school, they stole learning opportunities from the students, whose tuition helped pay for the equipment,” said Smith.
