Cultural Arts Theatre opens auditions
The City of Savannah’s Cultural Arts Theatre will hold auditions for the Winter production, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)”, on Nov. 5 from 6-8 p.m. in the Black Box at S.P.A.C.E., 9 W. Henry St. The play features all 37 of William Shakespeare’s works in just over an hour and a half. The play ran for 10 years at the Criterion Theatre in London, and has been reviewed by many as one of the funniest plays you might see. Ellie Pyle, the Department of Cultural Affairs new performing arts coordinator, will direct the play. They seek three males ages 18-40. Auditions will be 1-2 min. in length. The show will take place in the Black Box at S.P.A.C.E., Jan. 16-18, and 23-24.

College smoking bans on the rise
The lobbying group, Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights, reports that there are at least 160 college and universities in the United States that are 100% smoke free without exemption, triple the number from a year before. Eight of those exist in Georgia, with another four that ban smoking solely in residential halls. The biggest adoption of this policy came this year when the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education banned smoking on all state-owned campuses. The college was forced to take this position after the state adopted a smoke free work and public places law earlier in the year. SCAD prohibits smoking in all buildings, residence halls and courtyard areas.
