Jackie Chan Named Honorary Professor
SCAD named its first honorary professor on Sept. 3. SCAD President Paula Wallace traveled to Kowloon, Hong Kong and named Jackie Chan (popular martial artist and international movie star) an honorary professor of performing arts. Chan Laiwa of Beijing, China, and member of the SCAD Board of Trustees joined President Wallace in Hong Kong. SCAD has many noted Chinese artists and designers on faculty at their two campuses in the United States, and students regularly travel to China as part of the curriculum.
SCAD Museum of Art Exhibitions
The SCAD Museum of Art re-opened over the summer after an extensive renovation. There are numerous exhibitions on display, including “Fantastic Adventures in Text and Image,” which “charts the adventures of famous literary characters such as Robinson Crusoe, Lemuel Gulliver, and Moll Flanders, illustrated by well-known artists such as Cruishank, Hogarth, Rowlandson and Rockwell.” “Hogarth’s Tale of Two Cities: Rich and Poor in 18th-Century,” and “Lines and Shadows, Image and Self: Artist Portraits on Paper,” which features prints from the 16th and 18th centuries of Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Raphael, and others.
Fall Quarter Reminders
A math competency exam will be held Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. in Eichberg Hall. Students who pass this exam, which covers algebra, geometry and trigonometry, are allowed to substitute an approved science course for their math/science requirement. Reservations are not necessary. The Writing Center is coming to you this quarter – every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. students may log onto scadconnect.scad.edu/grammar/ and ask questions in a chat room. A writing center staff member will also be traveling to various buildings to assist students: Monday, 3-5 p.m., Morris Hall, Room 101; Tuesday, 10 a.m.-noon, Montgomery Hall, fourth floor conference room; Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon, Eichberg Hall lobby; Thursday, 3-5 p.m., Arnold Hall; and Friday, 3-5 p.m., Alexander Hall, second floor lounge.
