This Saturday, April 18, Savannah’s most popular record store, Graveface Records & Curiosities will be hosting an all day event where they’ll be selling loads of exclusive albums, providing deals and sales that are special to the event and presenting a lineup of live bands.

“We opened in late 2011, so April of 2012 was our first RSD [Record Store Day]. It’s completely insane how much it has grown just in the past three years,” said Ryan Graveface, the owner of the store. “There are nationwide events surrounding RSD so I’m really just borrowing a model that’s been done to death at this point. It’ll be a blast though.”

“I go every year. Being a SCAD radio alumnus we were always waiting for a store like Graveface to open up since we didn’t have a record store in town,” said SCAD sound design BFA alumn Jaime Hernandez from Houston, Texas. “Ryan the owner is a great dude, and he’s done a lot for the local scene in the time he’s been here. He hosts shows at the shop every now and then, and it’s basically become a place to see cool weird stuff you wouldn’t find in a normal record store.”

Without neglecting the hundreds of records to be sold at the event, it’s been announced that many exclusive albums are being released on Saturday as well. The various genres include artists alike Avicii, Banks, Cypress Hill, Death Cab for Cutie and more.

“It’s hard to keep yourself from spending all your money when the haul is that good. I can’t say I’d change a thing about it,” said Hernandez.

“They always have live music for record store day, I think this year Bellows and Sharpless from Brooklyn are playing along with Savannah bands Curb Dogs, Hawaiian Boi, HOST and Gnaw Rains,” said Hernandez.

“It’s definitely the perfect place for a music lover, weirdo or both,” said Hernandez.

The store’s greatest hiccup in the planning process thus far has been accessing the funds to purchase a fair amount of stock. Thankfully, Graveface is able to resort to their Christmas sales for financial support.

“We’re super streamlined and organized this year. Last year was pure chaos. We have a set of rules and there will be order to everything. It was a free-for-all previously. If we could simply recoup our expenses — which are massive for RSD — I’d be a happy camper,” said Graveface.
