SCAD is all about access and experience for every student and major. Even when industries seem unattainable to a college student, the options are still out there. For the entertainment arts that option is 3rd Act Productions.

3rd Act Productions is an entirely student-run organization that puts on three shows each calendar year. The club coordinates special events, such as Ovations and the 48-Hour Play Festival. An intense competition consisting of two continuous days of work for writers, directors and cast in order to produce a play from start to finish within 48 hours.Their goal is simple: to create a professional environment that gives students the chance to experience the ins and outs of theater production before they graduate.

The club, formerly known simply as “3rd Act,” is looking forward to a new focus on mirroring the professional world of theater production in an accessible environment for students. They intend to accomplish this by incorporating students from a wide range of majors in their upcoming projects.

“[Theater’s] not all about the actors,” said Joe Casper, a third-year performing arts major from Boston, Massachusetts.

Casper is the president of 3rd Act. He stressed the importance of a wide base of experience and skills among members.

Sky Ray, a second-year performing arts major from Tampa, Florida, and the club’s business manager, agreed mentioning the inclusion of both a graphic designer and an interior designer on the board.

3rd Act Productions is all about experience, according to Casper. It gives students the chance to practice what they’re learning in class and produces a well-rounded professional who can seamlessly transition from job to job in a work environment.

Besides sharing their own positive experiences and the value of joining 3rd Act Productions, Casper has one message for SCAD students: “Come to our shows!”

Shows that are completely free, Ray reminded.

3rd Act Productions has a board meeting every Friday morning. For more information on getting involved, sign up for Colleen Mond’s email list by emailing her at cmond@scad.edu or visit “3rd Act Productions” on Facebook and like their page.
