Club SCAD runs with new cardio equipment

Over the summer, Club SCAD received new cardio equipment and underwent some layout changes to make the space more passable. This included new treadmills, ellipticals and upright bike machines.

James Ives, a Wilmington, North Carolina native and Fitness Coordinator of Club SCAD said this new equipment will cause fewer problems.

“Last year the free weight section was a little too close to the first row of machines. This became a problem because people were clogging the aisle,” Ives said. “Some individuals like to do functional training exercises like pushing sleds, rope pulls and now that allows for a lot more space to do those activities.”

Because these changes were only finished weeks ago, Ives said he’ll wait to get more feedback, though he’s heard good things so far.

“Future plans would be to get new dumbbells,” said Ives. “That would be something I would be looking forward to, rubber dumbbells. And eventually update our strength training. That would kind of be our next step.”

Club SCAD employee Jake Rowe explains some of the new technology features in the gym.

Jake Rowe, a Club SCAD front desk employee and fourth year interior design major, furniture design minor from Richmond, Virginia, said this new equipment also brings better technological compatibility.

“There are plugins for your iPod,” Rowe said. “There are all types of trailers for movies; you can actually watch movies on it. And also it just looks cleaner and nicer, which helps.”

The school also renovated Crites Hall and bought Meddin Studios this summer to improve and increase the space available to students.
