College Security Report Apr. 11-17, 2011

April 11

1:50 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Security determined that the alarm was a false alarm and that there was no smoke or haze present. The boyfriend of a student had disconnected the device to keep it from sounding. Sonitrol was notified that the device would need to be checked.

11 a.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Forsyth House between midnight and 11 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

4:50 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Arnold Hall involving a SCAD bus and a SCAD van. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report. No injuries were reported.

7:57 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was a false alarm caused by students cooking in the room. The alarm was reset.

9:40 p.m. — A student reported to security that he lost his cell phone. The student stated that he last remembered seeing the phone on the third floor of Montgomery Hall at one hour prior.

April 12

5:30 p.m. —A student reported to security that she could not find her iPad and iPad charger and believed that they may have been taken from her room. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene at the student’s request, but the student did not wish to file a report.

7:13 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call near Gryphon Tea room involving a student that had fallen off of her bike. The student declined EMS response and was taken to Memorial University Medical Center.

10:02 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Abercorn Terrace involving a student that was requesting to go to the hospital because she felt ill. The resident director was notified and arranged a cab voucher for the student to be transported to the hospital.

10:44 p.m. — Security received a call from a student requesting to speak with the on-call counselor. Security contacted the counselor and gave them the students contact information.

April 13

12:07 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Turner House involving a student that was complaining of nausea and stomach pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

5:02 a.m. — A SCAD parent called security and notified them that his daughter was not feeling well. Security responded to the scene, but the student stated that she felt well enough to wait until the morning to go to the SCAD clinic. Security made a courtesy call to the parent and informed him of his daughter’s decision.

9:22 a.m. — Security was notified that an iPod belonging to SCAD student was missing from an exposition display at Fahm Hall. The iPod was part of the display and the student stated that the device had been replaced. The student did not wish to file a police report at this time.

10:55 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident in the parking lot of Morris Hall involving a student-driven vehicle and a parked car. Both owners decided not to notify police. There were no injuries reported.

4 p.m. — An AlliedBarton Security officer reported that he injured his knee on one of the benches outside of Fahm Hall. The officer. Smith stated that he did not need medical attention.

April 14

9:42 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Club SCAD involving a student that believed she was having an allergic reaction to peanut butter. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

12:44 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident involving a SCAD physical resources truck and a non-SCAD vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report. No injuries were reported.

5:35 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

7:45 p.m. — Security responded to an accident involving two student-driven vehicles. Neither student wanted EMS or police response.

9:16 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene where it was determined that a student cooking in the room had caused the alarm.

9:40 p.m. — A student notified security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Keys Hall between 5:45p.m. and 9:40 p.m. The student did not want police response.

11:31 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at the Equestrian Center. The alarm restored itself and no other problems were observed.

April 15

No activity to report.

April 16

2:18 p.m. — Security attempted to stop a student from entering Gulfstream Center without the proper sticker on his ID, but the student refused to stop. The student was later identified. The student was confirmed to be an active student and was instructed on how to get a new sticker.

3:50 p.m. — A student reported to security that his vehicle had been stolen from an off-campus location at Bay and Whitaker streets. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and gave the student a list of tow companies to check.

5:30 p.m. — Security discovered graffiti in the front stairwell of Oglethorpe House. Maintenance was notified of the damage.

8:20 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room in Abercorn Terrace in reference to a student bitten by a ferret. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene at the request of the student, but did not file a report because the owner of the animal left with the ferret. The student stated that she would see her local doctor.

9:53 p.m. — Security received a phone call from a student wanting to speak with an on-call counselor. Security contacted the counselor and passed on all information.

April 17

11:20 a.m. — Security responded to multiple alarms at Abercorn terrace between 11:20 a.m. and 2 p.m. All alarms were confirmed to be false alarms. Sonitrol was unable to determine the cause of the false alarms.

2:30 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from an off-campus location at near Lincoln and 33rd streets. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
