College Security Report Apr. 4-10, 2011

April 4

10:30 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage in the Turner House elevator. Maintenance was notified of the damage.

3:15 p.m. — Security discovered the back door to Adler Hall unsecured. The patrolling officer secured the door.

April 5

2:10 a.m. — A security vehicle was involved in an accident while transporting a student to his dorm. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report number. The driver of the SCAD vehicle and the student both declined EMS response.

7:57 p.m. — A student reported to security that an intoxicated male began screaming at her while she was walking from Mr. Pizza to Turner House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was notified and responded to the scene. Police stated that they were familiar with the individual and would remove him from the area. The student declined to press charges.

10:09 p.m. — A group of students reported that an intoxicated male followed them as they walked to Crites Hall. The man departed the area when the students entered the building. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was notified and was given a description of the individual.

11:42 p.m. — Security discovered the front door of Bobbie’s Diner to be unsecured. Sodexho management was notified and responded to lock the door.

April 6

2 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Arnold Hall. The student stated that she locked the bike to the rack at 8 a.m. and it was gone when she returned at 10:30 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

8:41 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene. It was determined a student cooking in the dorm caused the alarm.

April 7

4:32 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. Security determined that the alarm was a false alarm and that there was no smoke or haze present. The alarm was silenced and reset.

11:50 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Eichberg Hall involving a student that had fallen on the wooden steps injuring her ankle. The student declined EMS, but was transported to the SCAD Clinic by Yellow Cab. The student later went to Memorial University Medical Center for X-rays.

1:01 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Pepe Hall involving a SCAD student having a panic attack. EMS responded to the scene, but the student declined transport.

2:15 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from a bike rack at Eichberg Hall between 10:50 a.m. and 1:25 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

11:19 pm. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police contacted SCAD security in reference to a student detained because he had street signs in his possession. The signs were determined to be “No Parking” signs that the student admitted he had taken from Eichberg Hall. Police did not file charges and the signs were confiscated by security.

11:50 p.m. — Security was notified of a hit and run accident at 37th and Barnard Streets involving two students. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and EMS responded to the scene and issued a crime report. No injuries were reported.

April 8

12:57 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that they were arresting a student at an off-campus house party for being disorderly and for underage consumption of alcohol. Police issued a crime report.

3:10 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified SCAD security that they found a student intoxicated and passed out in the street at Barnard and Broughton Streets. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

11:20 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Alexander Hall involving a student that had momentarily passed out. EMS responded to the scene and the student stated that they would see their personal doctor.

2:45 p.m. — Security observed an unknown male acting suspiciously around the Oglethorpe bike racks. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was notified and arrested the suspect at an off-campus location while attempting to steal a bike. Police issued a crime report.

3:20 p.m. — A student reported to security that three gift cards with a total value of $150 had been stolen from a room in Montgomery Hall the day before. The student stated that the cards were in a box under some t-shirts and that he had been working about ten feet away from the box. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

7:53 p.m. — A building manager requested that a blue scooter be towed from the student center lot. The scooter was blocking several cars and had been there since 8 a.m. Hook Towing towed the scooter, which had no plates or SCAD stickers, from the lot.

8:42 p.m. — Security discovered an unsecured door to Shop SCAD. Security manager, Jeff Smith, was contacted and dispatched a locksmith to secure the door.

April 9

1:57 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

5:04 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene. The alarm was determined to have been a false alarm and the system was reset.

2 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from her off-campus residence. The student stated that she had not seen the bike in over a month. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

5:30 p.m. — Two students notified security that an unknown male followed them to their car and exposed himself to them at Forsyth Park. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded but did not issue a report because the students waited until they returned to campus before notifying police.

April 10

3:29 a.m. — Security responded to Turner Boulevard in reference to an intoxicated student lying in the street. Security escorted the student back to his room at Oglethorpe House, but the student exited his room at vomited several times before again lying next to the roadway. EMS responded to the scene, but the student refused treatment and returned to his room.

4:40 a.m. — An intoxicated student reported to the security officer at Weston Dyson that he had been robbed at gunpoint and his vehicle stolen. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and informed security that the student had not been robbed, but had struck a tree in his vehicle at 37th and Whitaker and had fled the scene. Police took the student into custody.
