College Security Report: April 22-26, 2009

April 22

5:38 a.m.— A parent called security and asked if his daughter, a SCAD student, could speak with an on-call counselor. Dispatch called and gave the counselor the student’s contact information.

9:11 a.m.— Security was notified of a vehicle accident involving a SCAD student and a non-SCAD individual at Gulfstream Center. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

1:50 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti at the second floor of Turner House on the door of the elevator. Pictures were taken of the damage.

2:40 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident at Physical Resources involving two staff members. There were no injuries reported. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

April 23

12 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from an off-campus location on Broughton Street. He said that he had secured the bike to a sign at 2 a.m. April 23, and that the bike was missing when he returned at noon. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to dispatch and issued a report.

1:56 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that she had a confrontation at Murphy’s Law Public House on April 16 with her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend. She also stated that she had been receiving threatening calls and e-mails since the confrontation. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to dispatch and issued a report.

7:50 p.m.— Security discovered the side basement door to York Hall was unsecured. Security conducted a patrol of the building and secured the door.

11:17 p.m.— An unidentified student gave a $20 bill to security at Turner House, stating that she had found it lying on the property. The security officer turned the money in to the operations manager and it was delivered to dispatch.

April 24

12:03 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Security patrolled the area and did not find anyone in the area.

2:20 a.m.— A residence director requested security to a room at Turner House for a possible drug policy violation. The director and a resident assistant searched the room and found drug paraphernalia. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified and responded to the scene. The police confiscated the paraphernalia and issued a report. The on-call manager was notified of the incident.

9:50 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the first floor of Turner House on the elevator door. Pictures were taken of the damage.

11:09 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Wallin Hall. Security determined the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

11:48 p.m.— Security responded to a side door tamper alarm at Trustees Theater. An interior and exterior patrol of the building was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered.

April 25

12:04 a.m.— Security responded to a exit/entry alarm at Trustees Theater. An interior and exterior patrol of the building was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered.

2:52 a.m.— The security officer stationed at the Equestrian Center observed a car stop at the sports complex and then leave at a high rate of speed. A foot patrol of the area was conducted and the storage shed containing sports equipment was found to be unsecured. Nothing appeared to be missing and nothing appeared to be damaged. Security secured the shed.

9:05 a.m.— Security responded to reported vandalism at Oglethorpe House. Security discovered that someone had changed the lettering of the Oglethorpe billboard. Security reported the incident to maintenance.

9:31 a.m.— Security responded to a report of the smell of smoke at the Student Center. Security determined that the smell was coming from the speaker system. Security unplugged the system and notified maintenance of the incident.

2:20 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti at the first floor stairwell of Oglethorpe House. Pictures were taken of the damage.

April 26

2:28 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Security patrolled the area and did not find anyone in the area.

11:05 a.m.— Security responded to a fire alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

4:49 p.m.— Security denied access to the Jen Library to an unidentified male who claimed to be a student. The individual stated that he had lost his ID, but needed access to the library to look at some magazines for a project. The individual refused to give his name or show any form of ID. He stated that he was not happy with the outcome and would complain to the college.
