College Security Report: April 5-12, 2010
April 5
11:10 a.m.— A SCAD student accidentally hit the corner of the Turner Annex building while leaving the parking lot. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
12:40 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Abercorn Terrace. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student taking a shower.
1:45 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that she had been struck by a car while bicycling at 34th and Bull streets. The student stated that she did not want EMS response and would go to the SCAD clinic on her own. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
3:20 p.m.— Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Gordon Hall. The students were able to get out of the elevator prior to security’s arrival. Atlantic Coast Elevator Service was notified that the elevator was not properly working.
4:08 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike was missing from the bike rack in front of Oglethorpe House. The student stated that he had last seen the bike on Jan. 15, and that he noticed it missing on March 26. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
7:54 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident involving a First Transit bus and another vehicle at Gulfstream. No injuries were reported. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
April 6
1 a.m.— Security responded to a room in Turner House for a possible drug policy violation. The on-duty resident assistant had smelled the odor of marijuana and had notified the residence director and security. The residence director conducted a visual search of the room and confiscated one bong. No drugs were apparent. The residence director stated that the issue would be handled through Student Conduct.
11 a.m.— Security responded to vehicle accident at Hamilton Hall involving two SCAD students. Neither party wanted police response.
1 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the side bike rack at Pulaski House. The student stated that she had secured the bike to the rack at 7 p.m. April 3, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 1 p.m. April 6. The bike was not registered with SCAD security. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
1:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the side bike rack at Forsyth House. The student stated that she had secured the bike to the rack at 5 p.m. April 5, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 1:30 p.m. April 6. The bike was not registered with SCAD security. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
7:44 p.m.— A SCAD staff member reported to security that the passenger side window of her vehicle had been broken while she was parked at Montgomery Hall. No items were missing from the vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
April 7
1:18 a.m.— Security responded to vehicle accident in the Weston/Dyson parking lot. A SCAD student stated that she had accidentally hit a light pole while driving in the lot. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
5:40 p.m.— Security was notified of a vehicle accident at the Weston/Dyson bridge involving a chartered bus being used by the admissions group. It was reported that the bus hit the railing to the bridge, but the bus was gone prior to security arriving on site.
6:20 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the York Street entrance of York Hall. Pictures were taken and a maintenance work order was requested to have the graffiti cleaned.
7:24 p.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Old Arch. A patrol of the area was conducted and the alarm was determined to be false.
April 8
12:01 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the Abercorn Street side wall of Keys Hall. Security took pictures of the damage and placed a work order to have the wall cleaned.
12:40 a.m.— Security discovered a SCAD student on the roof of Turner Annex. The student stated that he wanted to see if he could scale an A-frame style roof. The student was instructed that he should not be on the roofs of any SCAD buildings.
7:05 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the roof of Working Class Studio at Old Arch. Security took pictures of the damage and placed a work order to have it cleaned.
8:01 p.m.— Security was notified of a vehicle accident at 36th and Abercorn streets involving a SCAD faculty member. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. The vehicle had been parked at the time it was damaged and there were no injuries.
April 9
3:10 a.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Boundary Village. A patrol of the area was conducted and no one was found in the area of the call box.
3:03 p.m.— Security responded to a room in Dyson House at the request of the director of security. The director of security and another SCAD staff member conducted a search of the Dyson House room and discovered drug paraphernalia and pet rats. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and arrested a SCAD student. A police officer also removed the drug paraphernalia from the scene. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police issued a report.
April 10
1:30 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Turner House involving a SCAD student. The student stated that she had been sick all day and had just vomited up blood. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center. A message was left on the residence director’s phone, but security was unable to get in touch with the residence director.
2:57 a.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm the Turner House booth. A patrol was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered. Sonitrol alarm company was called and a work order was placed to have the system checked.
