College Security Report: April 9-15, 2009

April 9

11:26 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack in front of Oglethorpe House. She stated that she had secured her bike to the rack at noon April 7, and that she noticed the bike missing at 8 a.m. April 9. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

6:11 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

7:45 p.m.— A student who would not identify themselves notified security that there was a suspicious looking man near Turner House property. Security responded to the scene but could not find anyone matching the description. The Residence Hall Rover was instructed to perform extra foot patrols of Turner House and Weston/Dyson.

April 10

1:48 a.m.— Security discovered the front door to Corbin Hall was unsecured. Security conducted a patrol of the building and secured the door.

April 11

4 a.m.— Security discovered the front door to “The Spot” restaurant at Turner House was unsecured. Security checked the area and secured the door.

12:03 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that his laptop had been stolen from the sub shop at Turner House on April 5. He stated that he had left the laptop in the sub shop at 9:15 p.m. April 5, and that the laptop was gone when he returned to the sub shop a few minutes later at 9:25 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

9:45 p.m.— Security responded to a system pump trouble alarm at the Student Center. Upon further investigation security discovered noises coming from the pump room. Notification of the situation was made, and International Fire Protection was dispatched to the scene to make repairs.

April 12

1:33 a.m.— Security discovered a door to the packaging area at Weston/Dyson was unsecured. Extra patrols of the area were conducted and maintenance was notified in the morning and asked to secure the door.

6:38 p.m.— A Sodexho employee notified security that she had seen a large orange-colored snake on the bridge between Turner House and Weston House. Security stood by to make sure students didn’t go near the snake until the snake could be removed. The snake was identified as a corn snake.

April 13

2:10 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his vehicle had been damaged while it was parked at the Boundary Village parking lot. He stated that he had parked the vehicle in the lot at 12:01 a.m. April 11, and that he noticed damage to the sunroof area of the vehicle when he returned to the car at 8 a.m. the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

10:20 a.m.— A SCAD student drove his vehicle into the Boundary Village outbound gate arm while leaving the parking lot. He stated that he was departing the parking lot and that, as the gate was going up, he realized that he was going too fast to stop and that he accidentally hit the gate arm. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

2:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen his bicycle from the bike rack at Jen Library. He stated that he had locked the bike to the rack at 1:15 p.m. April 13, and that the bike was gone upon his return at 2:30 p.m. the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. The bicycle was not registered with SCAD security.

April 14

9:30 a.m.— A SCAD student notified security that his black tote containing a Nintendo DS with 10 games was missing from Arnold Hall. He stated that he had left the bag in Room 208 of Arnold Hall at 5 p.m. April 13, and that the bag was gone when he returned to the classroom at 9:30 a.m. April 14.

11 a.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident involving two SCAD students in the Montgomery Hall parking lot. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. No injuries were reported.

1 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her wallet containing her student ID while she was out of town in North Carolina.

10 p.m.— An on-call counselor notified security that she needed transportation for her and a student to Memorial University Medical Center emergency room. The counselor stated that the transportation was needed due to the suicide attempt of a student at Turner House. Security provided transportation. No other information was available at the time of this report.

10:44 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Montgomery Hall. A SCAD student was complaining of chest pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler Hospital.

April 15

7:30 p.m.— Security discovered an unknown male attempting to remove a license plate from a SCAD student’s vehicle at Fahm Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and arrested the individual, and issued a report.

11:15 p.m.— Security responded to a fire trouble alarm at Physical Resources. Upon investigation no signs of trouble were found and the alarm was silenced and reset.

11:55 p.m.— Security received a call from the mother of SCAD student stating that her daughter was ill and that she had not been in contact for several hours. Security notified a resident assistant and the student was contacted and asked to call her mother.
