College Security Report: Feb. 20-March 11, 2012

Feb. 20

5:20 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Eckburg Hall involving a student who had fainted. EMS responded to the scene and cleared the student to return to class.

Feb. 21

1:05 p.m. — A SCAD employee at Boundary Hall reported to security that when he arrived to work at 7 a.m. Feb. 20, the tool cabinet doors had been removed from the cabinet. No tools were missing.

Feb. 22

5:20 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that as she was working in a room at Montgomery Hall between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 22, her wallet and checkbook went missing. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:12 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that he had been struck by a vehicle while exiting Wallin Hall Feb. 14. The student and the driver of the vehicle decided not to report the accident to security or the police, but the driver has since been placing harassing calls to the student. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:10 p.m. — Security responded to Turner House in reference to a homeless man yelling near the bus stops. Security arrived at the scene three minutes after receiving the call, but could not find anyone matching the description. Extra patrols of the area were ordered throughout the night.

8:28 p.m. — Security received a call from a SCAD student requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Security called the counselor and passed on the contact information.

Feb. 23

4 a.m. — Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Turner House. Atlantic Coast Elevator responded to the scene and was able to get the doors open.

1:30 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she had left her laptop unattended at Adler Hall and that it was missing when she returned. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Feb. 24

5:20 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her vehicle had been damaged while it was parked in a grass lot near Boundary Village. A strong storm had recently passed it is believed that the vehicle had been damaged by storm debris. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

6:35 p.m. — Security discovered the rear door of Club SCAD was unsecured. A patrol was conducted and the door was secured.

Feb. 25

3:55 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified security that they had found an unsecured vehicle with the keys and a SCAD ID in the vehicle. Security was able to determine the address of the student and returned the belongings.

Feb. 26

No activity was reported.

Feb. 27

1:30 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her vehicle had been broken into while it was parked at the Streamliner Diner. The back window had been smashed and a handbag valued at $450 had been taken. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Noon — A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her phone in Arnold Hall sometime on Feb. 24.

4:32 p.m. — Security was informed of a medical incident at Boundary Hall involving a student who had accidentally cut herself. The professor stated that the student would be driven to the clinic by a fellow student.

Feb. 28

1:15 p.m. — The manager of Ex Libris reported to security that a student had stolen a book on Feb. 26. The manager had the student’s name and wanted Student Conduct to handle the issue rather than calling the police.

1:25 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Eichberg Hall involving a student who had fainted. The student was awake and responsive when security arrived and declined further medical treatment.

4:54 p.m. ­— A SCAD student reported to security that her driver’s side door had been damaged while her vehicle was parked at Hamilton Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police instructed the student to file a damage report online since the student had driven the car home prior to notifying SCMPD or security.

6:08 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be false was reset.

6:08 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced but could not be reset.

6:38 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his bicycle was missing from the bike racks at Turner House. The student stated that he did not want to file a police report.

Feb. 29

1:20 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she had almost been struck by an admission tour bus and was upset that the driver yelled at her.

7:30 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her wallet and keys somewhere in Dyson lab or the bathroom at Dyson. The student was not sure where she had left the items, but wanted security to know in case they were turned in.

March 1

2:58 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.

6:37 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm would not reset due to a panel malfunction and Stanley Security Solutions was notified.

6:45 p.m. — Security discovered the rear door to Bobbie’s Diner was unsecured. Sodexho was notified and sent a manager to secure the door.

8:05 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident involving two SCAD students at Montgomery Hall. One of the students departed prior to police arrival. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police instructed the remaining student that he could file a report online.

11:42 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be false, but would not reset. The item was placed on the maintenance list.

March 2

10 a.m. — The Coca-Cola route driver reported to security that the previous driver had accidentally left the Coca Cola vending machine in Wallin Hall unsecured. There was $300 in cash and $150 in product missing from the machine. The driver did not wish to file a police report.

11:15 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her wallet between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. March 1. The student stated that she believed the wallet was lost between Oglethorpe House and Carlito’s restaurant. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Noon — Security responded to an alarm activation with evacuation at Turner Annex. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.

8:38 p.m. — Security responded to a call box activation at Bergen Hall. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.

9:59 p.m. — Security observed a student throw garbage and glass bottles from the fourth floor of Turner House into the courtyard. The student went back into her room after throwing the items. Security contacted the on-call residence director who sent two resident assistants to handle the situation.

March 3

12:50 a.m. — Security responded to a room in Turner House in reference to the smell of marijuana. Security met the residence director on site and the RD conducted a visual search of the room with negative results.

12:15 p.m. — Security responded to St. Paul’s gym in reference to a student refusing to leave the premises after being told to leave by the intramural director. The operations manager responded to the scene and the student left after security’s arrival.

7:15 p.m. — Security was notified of a mouse in a unit at Abercorn Terrace. Maintenance was notified of the issue.

10:10 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room in Abercorn Terrace in reference to a student who was having severe joint pain. The residence director arranged a cab ride for the student to go to Memorial University Medical Center.

March 4

12:58 a.m. — Security responded to a medical at a room in Oglethorpe House involving a student that stated that they might have a concussion. The residence director arranged a cab ride for the student to go to Memorial University Medical Center.

2:15 a.m. — Security discovered an intoxicated student sitting on a bench at Alexander Hall. When approached by security, the student became combative and would not give security any information. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and were eventually able to get the student’s name and address. SCMPD provided the student with a ride to her off-campus residence.

March 5

9:30 p.m. — Security discovered the front door to Kiah Hall was unsecured. An officer was posted at the door until the door could be secured.

March 6

5 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his electric bicycle was missing from the Gulfstream bike racks. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

3 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her laptop was missing from the common area of Bergen Hall. The student stated that she left the laptop unattended for an hour and a half and that it was missing upon her return. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

3:40 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle fire at Boundary Hall. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

11:20 p.m. — Security discovered the emergency exit door on the right side off Pulaski House was unsecured. Security conducted a patrol of the building and then secured the door.

March 7

12:30 a.m. — Security responded to a room in Turner House at the request of the residence director for a possibly drug policy violation. A search by the RD provided negative results.

12:04 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that he had lost his wallet at Montgomery Hall between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. March 7.

3:55 p.m. — A SCAD student accidentally struck a GEM charging station at Weston/Dyson with his vehicle causing minor damage to the station. Maintenance was notified.

March 8

1 a.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at Pepe Hall. The alarm was determined to be false and was placed on the maintenance list.

2 p.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at a room in Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false and was placed on the maintenance list.

4:52 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that the radio had been stolen out of his vehicle while it was parked off campus on 63rd Street. The student was not certain that he had locked the car and did not want police response.

4:54 p.m. — Security responded to a supervisory tamper flow alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. The item was placed on the maintenance list.

5:58 p.m. — Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Oglethorpe House. Atlantic Coast Elevator responded to the scene and opened the door for the students. The elevator was taken out of service until repairs could be completed.

7:38 p.m. — Security responded to a report of a homeless man begging for money near Turner House. Security patrolled the area, but could not find anyone matching the description.

March 9

12:45 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified security that a SCAD student had been struck by a vehicle at 34th and Drayton streets and was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries. The on-call manager was notified of the situation.

3:57 a.m. — A SCAD student called security requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. The counselor was contacted and then transferred to the student.

2:59 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from his off-campus residence. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

5:30 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident with no injuries involving a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police vehicle and a SCAD student on a bike. The police issued a report.

March 10

2:15 a.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at a room in Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.

2:25 a.m. — Security discovered the side emergency fire exit door to Hamilton Hall was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and locked the door.

6:43 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she observed a man in her room at Forsyth House attempting to steal her laptop. When the man saw that she was awake he fled the room. Upon investigation it was determined that the students had left their dorm room door unsecured because one of the roommates did not have a dorm key. It was also determined that a laptop belonging to another student had been stolen. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

10:32 a.m. — Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Turner House. Atlantic Coast Elevator responded to the scene and opened the door for the students. The elevator was taken out of service until repairs could be completed.

12:15 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Eckberg Hall involving a student who had fainted. The student did not want EMS response and was instead picked up by her mother.

1:37 p.m. — Security stopped a male visitor from entering Gulfstream with a female student’s ID. It was determined that the SCAD student had taken her friend’s ID and given it to her husband in an attempt to have him gain entrance to Gulfstream. The ID was confiscated and the student was informed on visitor access procedures.

2:52 p.m. — A SCAD student informed security that she had exchanged phone numbers with a man named “Junior” on Feb. 11. Since that date, the man had been sending her inappropriate pictures and threatening text messages. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

4:31 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Gulfstream. The alarm had restored itself prior to security’s arrival.

4:40 p.m. — Security discovered the front door of Forsyth House was propped open. Security patrolled the building and secured the door.

5:11 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Gulfstream involving a student who had cut his finger. The student had driven himself to the hospital prior to security arriving at the scene.

March 11

1:30 p.m. — Security discovered that the rear door to J.O.’s Café would not secure properly. A locksmith was called to repair the door.

4 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House involving a student who had cut his hand. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
