College Security Report Jan. 10-15, 2011

January 10

12:44 a.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Alexander Hall. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm caused by someone spraying an aerosol can. The alarm was silenced and reset.

10 a.m. — Security responded to a “fire” alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene. It was determined that the alarm was a false alarm.

12:29 p.m. — Security responded to a “fire” alarm activation at Barnard Village. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene. It was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm.

1:05 a.m. — A student living in Abercorn Terrace reported to security that she heard a noise upstairs. When she investigated she saw a male jump out the window. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department responded to the scene and issued a crime report. The unknown male was later identified as a guest of one of the roommates.

January 11

3:12 p.m. — Security responded to a student vehicle accident at the Oglethorpe House. EMS evaluated the student but he was not transported. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department issued a crime report.

January 12

12:30 p.m. — Security received a call regarding the death of a student’s family member. Security contacted the proper departments but it was discovered that the student had already been notified by his family.

January 13

5:50 p.m. — Three female students reported to security that they had been mugged on Zuply Street. There were no injuries reported. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

9:15 p.m. — Security observed guests entering Abercorn Terrace with what appeared to be alcohol. Security notified the resident director who stated he would have a resident advisor investigate further.

January 14

1:30 p.m. — A Student Association member reported to security that a box of posters was missing from the Student Center. The member stated that he last saw the posters on Jan. 12. He realized they were missing when he returned two days later.

3 p.m. — A student reported to security that someone pulled the BMW logo off of her vehicle. The student declined police response.

7:44 p.m. — Security was contacted by a parent requesting information on how to withdraw his daughter from college. The student’s information was given to a resident advisor.

January 15

4:30 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at the lobby of Oglethorpe House. A student with a serious migraine headache requested EMS. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

1:13 p.m. — Security responded to an “Emergency Door” alarm at Alexander Hall. It was determined that the alarm was caused by a SCAD Day visitor opening the door. The door was silenced and secured.

3:10 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

6:05 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene and the alarm was determined to have been caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.
