College Security Report: Jan. 16-19, 2009
Jan. 16
12:47 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and that there was no smoke present. The alarm was silenced and reset.
1:55 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his friend’s bike was stolen from a parking meter at Barnard and Oglethorpe streets. He said he had secured the bike to the meter at 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 15, and that the bike was gone when he returned at 2 a.m. on Jan. 16. The bike belongs to a fellow student. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.
7:57 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that while at an off-campus party, he had lost his wallet containing his ID, credit cards and $15. He said that the wallet could have fallen from his pocket sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. Jan. 16.
8:17 p.m. — Security responded to the Student Center to take a report of an upset student. Upon arrival, security was notified that the resident director and the on-call manager had already been called by the building manager. Security contacted the on-call counselor at the building manager’s request. The on-call counselor responded to the site and, after speaking with the student, determined that the student could ride home with a roommate.
10:29 p.m. — Transportation requested assistance with a disorderly student on a SCAD bus at Oglethorpe and Price streets. The driver stated that a SCAD student had been complaining that the bus was stopping at closed buildings. The student stated that she was not complaining to the driver and that she was just discussing the issue with other students.
Jan. 17
12:07 a.m. — Dispatch received a call from a student requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Dispatch transferred the student to the on-call counselor contact.
1:20 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and that there was no smoke present. The system was silenced and reset.
2:45 a.m. — Security discovered the rear door to JO’s Café was unsecured. An interior patrol of the area was conducted and security secured the door.
3:19 a.m. — A SCAD student notified security that she was locked out of her room because she could not find her ID. Security contacted a resident assistant who gave the student access to Pulaski House and her room.
7:03 a.m. — Security responded to an intrusion alarm at Trustees Theatre. Security determined that the alarm was caused by staffing opening up the theatre. The alarm was silenced and reset.
7:37 a.m. — Security responded to Boundary Village in reference to a call stating that there was a suspicious male in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, security was unable to find anyone matching the description provided. Security added extra patrols to the area.
12:35 p.m. — Security discovered the Lai Wa gate was unsecured. Security patrolled the area and secured the gate.
1:05 p.m. — Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Alexander Hall. Security determined the alarm was caused by a student exiting through the door. Security silenced the alarm and secured the door.
5:36 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she believed someone had vandalized her vehicle while it was parked in the Turner House parking lot. She said she had parked her vehicle in the lot at 7 p.m. Jan. 16, and when she returned to the vehicle at 2p.m. Jan. 17 she noticed that her right front tire was flat and that there were scratches on the back of her trunk. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.
Jan. 18
12:01 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had cut the convertible top of her vehicle while it was parked in the Oglethorpe House overflow parking lot. She said that nothing was missing other than a bag of chips. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.
3:56 a.m. — Security responded to a call box alarm at Boundary Village. Security responded to the scene and patrolled the area. No problems were found.
7:04 p.m. — While on a routine patrol of the area, security discovered that there was an alarm going off at River Club. The alarm company had not called security regarding any alarms. Security entered River Club and determined that there was a duct detector alarm activated and that there was a burning smell in the building. Security contacted the Savannah Fire Department and requested response to the area. The Savannah Fire Department determined that there was no immediate danger to the building, but the duct detector could not be reset and was probably faulty. Maintenance and the air conditioning tech were notified of the situation.
11:39 p.m. — Security responded to a call box alarm at Eckburg Hall. Security responded to the scene and patrolled the area. No problems were found.
Jan. 19
2:56 a.m. — The Turner House security officer informed dispatch that the Turner House booth had been hit by two paintballs. A security supervisor responded to the scene and discovered two paint spots on the Turner House booth. A patrol of the area was conducted, but no one was found in the area.
12:50 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Security silenced and reset the alarm.
