College Security Report: Jan. 23-25, 2009

Jan. 23

1 p.m. — A SCAD student notified security that he had accidentally hit the fire escape ladder at Hamilton Hall with a U-Haul truck. No damage was done to the truck and the ladder damage was limited to some scraped paint.

3 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the Crites Hall bike rack. She stated that she had last seen the bike prior to winter break and that she noticed it missing earlier in the day Jan. 23. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:50 p.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Pulaski House. Savannah Fire Department responded to the site and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in a room. Savannah Fire Department cleared the room of smoke and reset the alarm.

Jan. 24

12:41 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined to be a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset.

3:05 a.m. — Security responded to a call-box activation at Old Arch. A patrol of the area was conducted and no people were observed near the scene.

1:25 p.m. — The assistant building manager reported to security that a SCAD student entered Montgomery Hall with a knife after being informed on Monday that he was not to bring sharp items or weapons into the facility. An operations manager responded to the scene and asked the student to give the knife to security. The student complied without further incident.

2:50 p.m. — Security responded to a room in Turner Annex at the request of the on-duty resident director. The resident director had called Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department to respond to the scene for a suspected drug policy violation. After searching the room, the police stated that the amount of substance found was not enough to warrant a report.

4 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her SCAD ID while walking around downtown. She stated that she had lost the ID sometime between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Jan. 24.

4:57 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Club SCAD. A SCAD student had reportedly had a seizure and was being transported by EMS to Memorial Hospital. She was unable to speak or give any other information prior to being transported. Security notified the on-call manager of the situation.

6:45 p.m. — Security responded to a slip and fall medical call in front of Hamilton Hall.

10:30 p.m. — A resident assistance requested assistance at Turner Annex. The resident assistant stated that a SCAD student had been driving her vehicle around Turner Annex with another SCAD student on the hood. Security spoke with both students and they promised that they would not do it again.

11:30 p.m. — Security responded to a call-box activation at Arnold Hall. A patrol of the area was conducted and no individuals were found to be in the area.

Jan. 25

8:42 a.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Turner Annex. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that a washing machine in the Turner Annex laundry room had been overloaded and had started smoking. Maintenance was called to provide access to the fire panel. The Savannah Fire Department gave the all clear and departed the site.

6:31 p.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at a room in Pulaski House. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The Savannah Fire Department cleared the smoke from the room and reset the system.

11:38 p.m. — Two SCAD students who did not want to be identified reported to the security officer at Turner House that they had heard someone shooting under the bridge at Lathrop and West Boundary streets. Dispatch called Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and notified them of the situation.
