College Security Report: Jan. 29-Feb. 2, 2009

Jan. 29

12:30 a.m. — Security responded to Turner Annex in response to a call regarding a suspicious person. A resident assistant stated that he had found a non-SCAD individual in the laundry room of Turner Annex and had escorted him off site prior to security’s arrival. Security patrolled the area, but was unable to locate the individual.

3:36 a.m. — Security discovered the doors closest to the Dumpsters at Boundary Hall were unsecured. Security patrolled the building and secured the doors.

11 a.m. — Security responded to a smoke alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

12:02 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Eckburg Hall. A SCAD student had accidentally run his finger through the sewing machine. He said he did not need EMS response and, after bandaging his finger, he returned to class.

Jan. 30

12:20 a.m. — Security responded to a report of an unknown individual loitering by Bergen Hall. Security patrolled the area, but no one was found.

12:25 a.m. — A resident assistant requested security assistance in regards to a party at a room in Turner House. Upon arrival at the scene the party had already been disbanded by the resident assistant and the only student still at the scene. The resident assistant stated that there had been several non-SCAD individuals at the party and that there had been alcohol involved. She did not have any information of the other individuals that had been at the scene.

2:34 a.m. — Security discovered the front door to Corbin Hall was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and secured the door.

3:24 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. Security determined the alarm was false, and the system was silenced and reset.

3:39 a.m. — A staff member at the Equestrian Center reported to security that there had been someone who entered an apartment at the Equestrian Center and that the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department was at the site. Security responded to the scene and met with an equestrian studies professor, who said an unknown male had entered her apartment and was chased off by her dogs, leaving through the second floor window. The sheriff’s department patrolled the area, but did not locate the man. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department issued a report. Closed-circuit television evidence was recovered and turned over to investigators.

3:40 a.m. — A SCAD student called security and stated that there was an intoxicated student outside of a room in Boundary Village who having difficulty entering her dorm. Security responded to the scene and met with a resident assistant. The resident assistant requested EMS for the student. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler Hospital.

12:21 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen her bike from the bike rack on the 34th Street side of Arnold Hall. She stated that she had locked her bike at 9 a.m. hours and that the bike was gone when she returned at 12:21 p.m. hours. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

7:38 p.m. — A resident director reported to security that the second floor window in the laundry room above the Express Office of Turner House was broken. Security notified the janitorial service and requested clean up.

11:27 p.m. — A wallet belonging to a SCAD student was turned in to security. The wallet had been found at Broughton and Barnard streets.

Jan. 31

1:12 a.m. — Security discovered the right-side main door to the Equestrian Center was unsecured. Security patrolled the area and secured the door.

3:30 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined the alarm was false, and silenced the alarm and reset the system.

3:57 a.m. — Security discovered an unidentified male student sleeping in the women’s room of Boundary Village. Security woke the individual who appeared intoxicated and would not identify himself. The individual departed the scene while security was contacting a resident assistant, and was believed to have entered a dorm room. The resident assistant notified the resident director and the on-call manager of the incident. The resident assistant entered a room of Boundary Village and spoke with a student occupying the dorm. The student stated that there was no one matching the description of the intoxicated student in the room. The resident assistant stated that no further action was necessary.

10:41 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Boundary Hall involving a non-SCAD individual. A man stopped at Boundary Hall and informed security that he was experiencing chest pains and requested EMS. EMS responded to the scene and transport the man to Memorial Hospital.

11:25 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined the alarm was false, and silenced and reset the system.

11:51 p.m. — Security responded to a system trouble alarm activation on the second floor of Wallin Hall. Security determined the alarm was false, and silenced and reset the system.

Feb. 1

6:14 a.m. — Security responded to a call box activation at Arnold Hall. Security patrolled the area and no one was found in the vicinity of the call box.

4:52 p.m. — Security responded to a room in Dyson regarding a report of suspicious activity. A SCAD student reported that an unknown male had been knocking at his door. He said he asked the man to identify himself, but the man responded, “I don’t know who I am” and walked off. Security patrolled the area and could not find anyone matching the description.

8:20 p.m. — Security responded to a system trouble alarm activation in a zone of Turner House. Security patrolled the area and determined that the alarm was false.

Feb. 2

5:10 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Pulaski House.  Security determined the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Savannah Fire Department cleared the area of smoke and the alarm was silenced and reset.

5:20 p.m. — SCAD security and transportation manager requested that security meet the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department at Oglethorpe House in response to a drug policy violation. Security met the police at the scene, and the police retrieved a small amount of marijuana.  The police issued a report.

7:41 p.m. — A SCAD professor reported to security that he had found a note on his car asking him to check behind the Dumpster. Security checked behind the Dumpster and found a second note and a small pill. Security patrolled the area but did not find anyone. The professor said he believed it was probably just a student prank.
