College Security Report: Jan. 7-11, 2010

Jan. 7

6:20 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on the scene and determined that the alarm was false. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

7:37 p.m.— The on-call counselor requested security transport for herself and a student to Memorial Health Behavioral Medicine. Security provided the transport and then brought the counselor back to campus.

10:53 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that her door key for a room in Abercorn Terrace had broken in the lock and that she was now unable to gain entry to her dorm. Security notified the director of security who dispatched a locksmith to correct the issue.

11:25 p.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at Morris Hall. The fire panel indicated a supervisory failure. A patrol of the building was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered. The alarm was silenced and reset.

Jan. 8

1:10 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation with strobe activation at the common room in Barnard Village. A patrol of the area was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was found. The alarm was unable to be reset and the strobes could not be deactivated. Sonitrol alarm company was notified and a tech was dispatched. The alarm was determined to have been caused by a faulty detector in a room. A work order was placed to have the system repaired.

5 p.m.— Security received a call from a SCAD parent stating that her daughter was having a dispute with her roommate and that her roommate’s mother had called and yelled at the parent’s daughter. Security notified the residence director who stated that they would handle the situation and call the parent back.

Jan. 9

1 a.m.— Security was notified of a student lock-out at a room in Weston House due to a broken key in the lock. The security director was notified and dispatched a locksmith to the location.

3:30 a.m.— Security stopped a non-SCAD student from entering Turner House with a student’s ID that did not belong to him. A SCAD student was with the non-SCAD student, who was her boyfriend, and stated that another student had given the ID to her so that she could attempt to sneak her boyfriend into her dorm. The ID was confiscated by security.

10:23 a.m.— A SCAD student contacted security wishing to speak with the on-call counselor. Security contacted the counselor and the counselor contacted the student.

12:30 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that her wallet had been stolen while she was bicycling downtown. The student could not determine when the wallet was stolen and believed that someone must have picked her pocket. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. The wallet was later turned in to dispatch by someone who had found it laying on the ground. The student claimed the wallet at 5:45 p.m. and stated that all of the wallet’s contents were intact and that she may have lost the wallet instead of it being stolen.

occurred 7 p.m. Jan. 9, reported 3:03 p.m. Jan. 10— Security received a call from a SCAD parent who stated that his son had told him that his roommate, a SCAD student, had been robbed at gunpoint the previous evening. The parent could provide no further information. Security notified the on-call manager of the incident.

Jan. 10

2:35 p.m.— Security was notified that the parent of a SCAD student had passed away. Security took the caller’s information and passed along all the information to the on-call manager and residence director.

Jan. 11

1:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her vehicle had been broken into and that her laptop had been stolen. The student stated that she had parked her vehicle in the Fahm Hall parking lot at noon Jan. 11. A classmate informed her at 1 p.m. that her rear driver side window had been broken. The student stated that she had left her laptop sitting on the backseat of the vehicle and the laptop was now missing. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

5:23 p.m.— A security officer stopped a SCAD student from entering Gulfstream with a non-valid ID. A SCAD staff member was at the security desk at the time and instructed the student to disregard the officer and enter the building anyway. An operations manager responded to the scene and filed a report.
