College Security Report: Jan. 8-11, 2009

Jan. 8

3:14 a.m.— Security responded to the Weston/Dyson security booth to address an intoxicated student. A SCAD student had been dropped off at the entrance to Weston/Dyson and was sitting by the security booth. She was crying and said she could not remember her room number, did not know who had dropped her off, and would not answer any questions regarding why she was crying or where she had been. Security notified the residence director who responded to the scene and escorted the student to her room.

5:30 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Oglethorpe House. Security determined that the alarm was a system trouble alarm. Security patrolled the area and the alarm was reset.

10:36 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Corbin Hall. Security determined the alarm was a system trouble alarm (AC Power). Security patrolled the area and the alarm was reset.

9:43 p.m.— A SCAD student called security and stated that she was suffering from severe stomach cramps. Security and EMS were dispatched to the scene. EMS transported the student to Candler Hospital.

11:47 p.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Old Arch. Security patrolled the area and was unable to determine who had activated the alarm.

Jan. 9

9 a.m.— A SCAD residence director informed security that her vehicle was vandalized while it was parked in the Eichberg parking lot. She stated that she had parked the vehicle in the Eichberg lot at 9 a.m. on Jan. 6, and that she noticed that the back window was broken when she returned later the same day. She had already reported the incident to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.

9:12 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Security determined that the alarm was a system trouble alarm. Security patrolled the area and the alarm was reset.

9:12 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Security determined that the alarm was a system trouble alarm (Communication). Security patrolled the area and the alarm was reset.

1:15 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his black, double-fold wallet was missing. He stated that he had left the wallet on a desk in the Weston lobby while he was playing pool and that it was missing when he returned to the desk at 10 p.m. He said the wallet contained a set of keys, $104 in cash and a number of bankcards. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

6:36 p.m.— Security responded to a water flow alarm on the second floor of Turner House. Security determined that a second floor sprinkler head and pipe had been damaged causing the water flow alarm as the water emptied from the broken pipe. The building was evacuated and the Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene. SCAD maintenance was notified of the situation and responded to the scene to shut off the water supply to the broken pipe. Dorm room on the second floor, first floor and basement floor level had some flooding damage, and alternate housing arrangements were made for the affected students.

7:15 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call involving a student that had been struck by a car. A SCAD student had been struck by a car while she was bicycling across West Boundary and Turner streets heading toward the Dyson/Weston complex. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Hospital.

9:04 p.m.— A SCAD parent notified dispatch that she had been unable to contact her daughter. Dispatch notified the resident assistant (RA) and transferred the parent to the RA phone. The RA informed the parent that there was no answer at the student’s dorm room, but the RA would continue to try and contact the student before the end of the night.

Jan. 10

12:04 a.m.— A SCAD parent called Dispatch again regarding her daughter. She stated that she had still been unable to contact her daughter. Dispatch notified the residence director of the situation. The residence director said he would handle the situation and call the parent.
5:38 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Oglethorpe House. Security conducted a patrol of the area and determined the alarm was false. The alarm was reset.

9:48 a.m.— Security responded to an intrusion alarm activation at Red Gallery. Security patrolled the area and determined the alarm was false. All doors were secure when security arrived. The alarm was reset.

1:41 p.m.— A residence director requested that a supervisor be present while he entered a dorm room in Oglethorpe House for a possible drug policy violation. A supervisor arrived on scene, but the search was cancelled by the residence director. He stated that the students were burning incense in the room and had been notified that they could not burn incense in their room.

10:31 p.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm at Arnold Hall. Security responded to the scene and patrolled the area. No problems were found.

Jan. 11

12:25 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and reset the system. No smoke or haze was present.

2:21 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm at Eckburg Hall. Security responded to the scene and patrolled the area. No problems were found.

2:49 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm at Eckburg Hall. Security responded to the scene and patrolled the area. No problems were found.

1:58 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and that there was no smoke or haze present. The alarm was silenced and reset.

8:09 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.
