College Security Report: July 22-28, 2008

July 22

2:55 a.m.—Security discovered a haze of smoke and a burning odor in Boundary Hall. Upon investigation it was determined that a kiln had been left on and was causing the burning smell. The kiln was turned off.

1 p.m.—A SCAD employee reported that someone had shaken a vending machine on the second floor of Oglethorpe House causing the cable to be removed from the wall. The vending company was called and informed of the situation.

8:45 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that someone had taken the front tire of his bicycle while the bicycle was locked to the bike rack at Weston House. He stated that he locked the bike at noon on July 21 and that the tire was missing when he returned at 11 a.m. on July 22. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

July 27

8:49 p.m.—Security discovered the basement door to York Hall was unsecured. A patrol was conducted of the building and the door was secured.

10:45 p.m.—Security responded to a report of a staff member was trapped in an elevator at the Jen Library. Atlantic Coast Elevator was notified of the incident, arrived on the scene at 11:19 p.m. and removed the staff member from the elevator.

July 28

6 p.m.—Security observed a SCAD student screaming, crying and using profanity outside the entrance to the SCAD Cafe. A SCAD staff member was onsite and attempted to calm the student. Security called the on duty resident director and informed her of the situation. The RD met with the student and determined that the on-call counselor did not need to be notified.
