College Security Report Mar. 7-20, 2011
March 7
11:05 a.m. — Security was notified of an off-campus vehicle accident involving a student. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report. There were no injuries reported.
1:44 p.m. — Security received a call from a SCAD parent that was concerned about the safety of her daughter. The parent stated that her daughter had been having trouble with her roommate. Security called the on-call manager and passed on all of the information.
7 p.m. — An ABM Janitorial Services employee reported that her vehicle had been vandalized while it was parked at the Physical Resources lot. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
1:17 a.m. — A student attempted to sneak a non-SCAD into Turner House using a fake ID. The unknown male refused to identify himself and left the property.
March 8
10:30 a.m. — A student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Arnold Hall. The student stated that he locked the bike to the rack at 7:45 a.m. the day before and that it was missing when he returned a few hours later. He did not wish to file a police report.
2:30 p.m. — A student reported to security that her school project and tools were missing from the Gulfstream Center. The student stated that she left the items on a table the night of Mar. 7 and they were gone when she returned the next morning.
3:50 p.m. — A student reported to security that his scooter was missing from his off-campus residence. The student believed that the scooter was either stolen the last week of February or city services took the scooter believing it was trash. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
3:58 p.m. — A resident director reported to security that he received numerous complaints about students throwing oranges and shooting a BB gun from a window of Turner House. He conducted a search of the room and found a BB gun and pellets. There was also a scorecard outlining a point system for hitting cars and pedestrians. The items were confiscated and the incident was reported to Student Conduct.
8:40 p.m. — A student reported to security that she had been assaulted by another student in his off-campus apartment. Security immediately notified the on-call manager, resident director and Savannah-Chatham Metro Police. Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
March 9
11:15 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Fahm Hall involving a student that had a piece of metal in her eye. The student was able to remove the object prior to security’s arrival and stated that she would go to the SCAD clinic to have the eye checked.
1:07 p.m. — Security was informed of graffiti in the men’s bathroom at Montgomery Hall. Maintenance was informed of the graffiti.
5:32 p.m. — Security was notified of a minor vehicle accident on Indian Street. Neither individual wanted police response as there was little to no damage to either vehicle.
March 10
12:49 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Turner House. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.
4:13 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene. A student boiling water in the room caused the alarm.
8:20 a.m. — A SCAD bus driver reported to security that a student punched the top glass of the door and broke the window. The student stated that he was mad because he was told that the bus was out of service and that he would have to wait for the next bus.
2:15 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Crites Hall. Upon arrival at the scene security discovered a large amount of smoke in the rear of the building. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined that a sprinkler pump had overheated. A fire watch was ordered until repairs could be made.
March 11
2:49 a.m. — A student reported to security that he lost his wallet at an unknown location. He did not wish to file a police report.
6:45 a.m. — Security was informed that pieces of concrete had fallen from the ceiling at Gulfstream Center. Maintenance was notified and the area was blocked off.
1:18 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Arnold Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
March 12
1:20 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Turner House involving a student who fell, striking his face and head while walking downtown. EMS responded to the scene and rendered first aid but did not transport the student. At 2:54 a.m. the student contacted security and again requested EMS. EMS responded a second time and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
3:54 a.m. — A student reported to security that her external hard drive was missing from Eichberg Hall. The student stated that she left the hard drive unsecured between 11:30 p.m. on Mar. 11 and 3:15 a.m. on Mar. 12. The student declined to have police notified.
9:16 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. Upon arrival at the scene the system indicated “All Systems Normal”.
2:05 p.m. — A student reported that her parked car had been struck by an unknown vehicle while it was parked at Oglethorpe House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
8:18 p.m. — A student reported to security that his roommate had stolen $52 dollars worth of candy from him. The student was also upset that one of the roommate’s guests had stayed in his bed while he was away. The roommate admitted to both occurrences and paid the student for the candy. During the search of the room several alcoholic beverages were discovered. The resident director was notified and the student was relocated to a new dorm for the night.
10:50 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Pepe Hall. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined that a burner was left on causing the alarm.
March 13
8 p.m. — Security was called to the Turner House pizza shop in reference to two unruly students. Security responded and witnessed two students yelling at the shop’s staff. The students departed prior to the security supervisor arriving.
March 14
8:05 a.m. — Security responded to Ex Libris in reference to a guest falling down the exterior steps. EMS responded to the scene and transported the individual to Memorial University Medical Center.
March 15
2:30 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Eckburg Hall. It was determined that off-line phone wiring caused the alarm.
3:47 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and it was reset.
10:18 p.m. — Security smelled gas coming from JO’s Café. A Sodexho manager responded to the scene, but was unable to determine what was causing the smell. The Savannah Fire Department was contacted and it was determined that there were four pilot lights out on the stove. The gas was shut off until maintenance could fix the stove in the morning.
March 16
2:30 a.m. — A student attempted to sneak non-SCAD individual into a SCAD building using an ID belonging to another student. The card was confiscated and the resident advisor on duty was notified.
5:09 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Dyson House in reference to a student that believed he had food poisoning. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
8:35 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm. The system returned to “all systems normal” when security arrived on scene.
9:45 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Madison Square in reference to a student having back pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
10:50 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage in the Turner House elevators. Maintenance was notified of the damage.
1:12 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. It was determined that a student cooking in the dorm caused the alarm.
9:12 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm activation at Barnard Village. It was determined that a student cooking in the dorm caused the alarm.
March 17
1:01 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that they had found an extremely intoxicated student at Monterey Square. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
5:04 a.m. — Security received a call from a student requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Dispatch called the counselor and forwarded the students contact information.
March 18
10:50 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti on the back elevator at Turner House. Maintenance was notified of the damage.
2:05 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. It was determined that a student cooking in the room caused the alarm.
10:31 p.m. — A SCAD athletic coach reported that a gold watch, a wallet, a laptop, an iPod touch, three text books and some clothing had been stolen from an unlocked Georgia State University van at the SCAD sports complex. Jasper County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
March 19
12:11 a.m. — Security observed three males behaving suspiciously by the bike racks at Oglethorpe House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and arrested the individuals for attempting to steal bikes. Police issued a crime report.
1:38 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that they were arresting a SCAD student for having a fake ID, obstruction and underage drinking.
3:55 p.m. — A student reported to security that someone hit his parked car in the Oglethorpe House lot between 2 a.m. and 3:55 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
March 20
7:02 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Pulaski House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that a student cooking in the room caused the alarm.
