College Security Report: March 29-April 4, 2010

March 29

1:15 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House. A SCAD student stated that she was experiencing chest pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

6:16 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti near the Lucas Theatre stairwell in the alley. Security took pictures of the damage and placed a work order on the maintenance log for clean-up.

1:30 p.m.— Security responded to a minor motor vehicle accident at Oglethorpe House involving two SCAD students. Neither student wanted police response.

2 p.m.— Security stopped a SCAD student at the front entrance to Arnold Hall for not having the proper spring quarter sticker on his student ID. The student stated that he was going to class anyway and did not care if he was reported to student services.

2 p.m.— Security stopped a SCAD student at the front entrance to Eckberg Hall for not having the proper spring quarter sticker on his student ID. The student stated that he was going to class anyway and did not care if he was reported to student services.

March 30

11:20 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Club SCAD. The student stated that he had locked the bike to the rack at 10 a.m., and that the bike was gone when he returned at 11:20 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

1 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Dyson House. She stated that she had locked the bike to the rack on March 24, and that the bike was gone when she returned to retrieve the bike on March 30. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

March 31

10:45 a.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident at Hamilton Hall involving a SCAD staff member and a student. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

2:20 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at the Turner Annex parking lot. A SCAD student was reported to have had a seizure. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

2:40 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident at the Oglethorpe House parking lot involving a SCAD staff member and a J.O.’s staff member. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

6:46 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

7:09 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

7:20 p.m.— A SCAD staff member reported to security that his code was not working at Hamilton Annex. Security called Sonitrol alarm company and was able to get the alarm silenced and reset.

10:25 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke alarm activation with evacuation at the Trustees Theater. Security determined that the alarm was caused by the use of a fog machine used in production rehearsal. The alarm was silenced and reset when the fog cleared.

April 1

1:05 a.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm at Turner House. The alarm restored itself and a tour of the building indicated no problems.

4:15 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Pepe Hall. Security determined that the alarm was due to low battery power supply.

10:16 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was false. The alarm was silenced and reset.

7:04 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

April 2

2:07 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

7:32 p.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm at Kiah Hall. Security determined that the alarm was due to a low battery, and that the alarm had reset itself.

7:52 p.m.— A residence director notified security that there were two dogs running around the Barnard and Gulfstream buildings. The two dogs were reported to belong to the junkyard next to Gulfstream. Security notified the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police who stated that they would handle the issue.

8:20 p.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Gordon Hall. A patrol of the area was conducted and no one was discovered in the vicinity of the call box.

April 3

7:04 p.m.— A residence director requested security response for a possible policy violation at a room in Boundary Village. Two students claimed to have smelled a marijuana odor when they returned to their dorm. The students stated that their roommate had been told on several occasions not to smoke in their room. The residence director conducted a visual search of the room, but nothing was found.

7:56 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from Eichberg Hall. The student stated that he had locked his bike at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard entrance to Eichberg on March 29, and that it was gone when he returned on March 30. The student stated that he would contact the police and file a report.

April 4

12:24 a.m.— A resident assistant reported to security that he had observed someone trying to climb a fence at Turner Annex, but could not get a description. Security responded to the area and conducted a foot patrol of Turner Annex. Nothing unusual was discovered.

12:34 a.m.— Security responded to a smoke trouble alarm at a room in Wallin Hall. A foot patrol was conducted and the alarm was determined to be false.

1:23 a.m.— Sonitrol alarm company notified security that the fire panel battery at Clinard Hall was going dead and needed repair. Sonitrol stated that they would notify security if the battery failed completely.

3 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Eckburg Hall. Security patrolled the area, but did not find anyone in the vicinity of the call box.

1:06 p.m.— A SCAD parent called security and stated that her son’s toilet had been broken earlier in the week. She stated that the bathroom had not been cleaned after the workers left, and that the toilet was still not working. The parent was told that someone would be sent to clean the area.

3:45 p.m.— A resident assistant notified security that she had smelled an odor of marijuana coming from a rooms in Boundary Village. The residence director and security responded to the scene and conducted a visual search of the room, but nothing was found.

6:04 p.m.— Security stopped a SCAD student at the security desk of Eichberg Hall for not having a SCAD ID. The student stated that she had left her ID at work. When told that she could not enter the building without a SCAD ID, the student stated that the only way she was leaving was if someone carried her out. She bypassed the security desk and entered the building.

7:10 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Gulfstream. A SCAD professor stated that she was jogging near Gulfstream when three dogs attacked her. The professor stated that she did not need EMS, but wanted to stop in and clean the scratches. Security called animal control, but when they arrived on scene the dogs could not be found.
