College Security Report: Oct. 12-18, 2009

Oct. 12

Reported at 11 a.m. Oct. 12, incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10— A SCAD student reported to security that he had been assaulted off campus at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Anderson Street by five to six men. He stated that he had been walking from the Jen Library to his off-campus residence in the 1900 block on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. when he was approached by the men. He managed to get away and called the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and EMS. The police issued a report.

Reported Oct. 12, incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10— A SCAD student reported to security that he had been assaulted off campus at 39th and Howard streets a large number of men. The student stated that he had picked up a pizza with two friends and was walking towards a friend’s house when they were approached by the group and attacked. The students were able to get away from the group and called EMS and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.

9 a.m.— Security responded to medical call at Bergen Hall involving a SCAD student. She stated that she had bumped her head on a table while bending over to pick something up. EMS responded to the scene, but the student declined transportation to the hospital.

noon— Security responded to alarm activation at a Boundary Village room. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

Oct. 13

2:34 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Bergen Hall. No one was in the vicinity of the call box when security arrived.

5:15 a.m.— While on a routine foot patrol of Montgomery Hall, a security officer noticed that a student had pictures of a naked woman and child on the computer he was working on. The student claimed that the pictures were from a blog and not a pornographic site. The computer used was located on the first floor of Montgomery Hall.

6:24 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Bergen Hall. No one was in the vicinity of the call box when security arrived.

2:30 p.m.— Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident at Turner and West Boundary streets involving a SCAD student and a non-SCAD individual. No injuries were reported. The Savannah-Chatham Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:53 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from his off-campus residence on East Gwinnett Street. He stated that he had last seen the bike at noon Oct. 13. Security called the police and asked them to respond to the residence to take a theft report.

Oct. 14

4:05 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at the 49th Street lot. Two SCAD students requested an escort from the 49th Street lot to Barnard Village. The Barnard Rover responded to the scene and escorted the students.

5 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call from a room in Turner House. The student stated that he had fallen from the top bunk and was now disoriented. EMS and a residence director responded to the scene. After being evaluated by EMS, the student decided not to be transported to the hospital.

Oct. 15

12:47 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

1:03 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

3:35 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Anderson Hall involving a SCAD student who had fainted in class. EMS responded to the scene, but the student refused transport. The student was escorted back to her dorm by friends.

7:20 p.m.— Sonitrol alarm company notified security of a constant motion alarm inside of Kiah Hall. Security responded to the scene and found all doors and windows were found to be secured. A building manager was notified and responded to the scene. A foot patrol was conducted and it was discovered that the alarm was caused by helium balloons attached to a display.

11:20 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation in the horse stable area of the Equestrian Center. A building manager was contacted and stated that Sonitrol alarm company knew of a fault in the alarm system. Security contacted Sonitrol and requested a work order be placed to have the system checked in the morning.

Oct. 16

12:40 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

10:31 a.m.— Security responded to Physical Resources in reference to a non-SCAD individual that was refusing to leave the property. A man was refusing to depart the building after being asked to leave. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued the man a trespass warning.

4:15 p.m.— A SCAD employee reported to security that a SCAD-owned laptop computer was missing from York Hall. She stated that the laptop was last seen in room 401 sometime during the last week of September. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Oct. 17

12:38 a.m.— A resident assistant informed security that, as he was conducting floor checks at Turner House, he observed a student exiting a room and noticed what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette on the floor. A residence director responded to the scene and found several empty beer cans in a bag connected to a SCAD student’s bed. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and disposed of the marijuana cigarette.

12:47 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

4:55 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at the front east door to Hamilton Annex. A foot patrol of the building was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered.

5:49 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from an off-campus location on Broughton Street. She stated that she had locked her bike outside the Primary Art store on Broughton Street at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14, and she noticed the bike was missing when she returned at 5:49 p.m. Oct. 17. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Oct. 18

2:09 a.m.— The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified security of an alarm activation and open door at the Memorial Health Clinic in the Hilton Savannah DeSoto hotel. A foot patrol was conducted of the offices and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. Security secured the front door from the inside and departed through an emergency exit.

4:20 a.m.— A SCAD contractor reported to security that two men had climbed onto the scaffolding outside of Jen Library and threw several bags of cement and a bucket onto his truck. The contractor observed the individuals climb down and depart through the alley. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and was able to arrest the two men.

6:55 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

7:33 p.m.— During a routine patrol of the exterior of River Club, security heard an alarm beeping inside the building. Security determined that the alarm was a “supervisory trouble” alarm in the first floor duct. Security was able to silence and reset the alarm.

9:32 p.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. A patrol of the building was conducted and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. Security silenced and reset the alarm panel.
