College Security Report: Oct. 13-19, 2008
Oct. 13
1:02 a.m.—Security responded to a smoke alarm activation in a room at Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Savannah Fire Department did not respond to this alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
7:02 a.m.—Security responded to a smoke alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Savannah FIre Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The fire department instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.
10:30 a.m.—Security was informed of a vehicle collision involving an American Coach bus and a non-scad vehicle at the intersection of Whitaker and Gaston streets. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
1:30 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her wallet. She stated that she noticed that her wallet was missing from her pocket when she attempted to pay for items at Ex-Libris. She said she did not wish to file a police report.
3:30 p.m.—A SCAD student said that on three separate occasions he had found vulgar notes on his motorcycle while it was parked in the Oglethorpe House overflow parking lot. He stated that the first note was found on Oct. 8, the second note was found on Oct. 9 and the third on Oct. 13.
10:05 p.m.—Security found an unsecured fire door at Alexander Hall. A patrol was conducted of the building and the door was secured.
10:17 p.m.—Security received a call box activation at Boundary Village. Security responded to the scene, but did not find anyone in the area.
Oct. 14
6:16 a.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that he had been assaulted by his roommate in Westin House. He stated that he did not need police or EMS response. Security notified the on call manager of the situation and the student was temporarily moved to another room.
11:30 a.m.—Security was notified of an vehicle collision at Whitaker Street and West Park Avenue involving a SCAD owned vehicle and a non-SCAD individual. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
9:12 a.m.—Security was notified of an off campus theft report at Broad Street between Taylor and Gordon streets. A SCAD student stated that his bicycle had been stolen from the off campus residence of his friends house at between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. Dispatch notified the police, who responded to the scene and generated a report.
Oct. 15
6:17 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her ID sometime in the evening of Oct. 14. She believes that she lost the ID somewhere in the vicinity of Turner House.
9:10 p.m.—Security was notified of a vehicle collision at Bull and Broughton streets involving a SCAD student who was struck with by a vehicle while he was on a moped. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Health University Medical Center.
11:06 p.m.—Security discovered an unsecured fire door at Arnold Hall. Security patrolled the area and secured the door.
Oct. 16
1:07 a.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation in a room at Barnard Village. Upon investigation the alarm was determined to be a false alarm. There was no smoke or haze present. The alarm was silenced and reset.
2:40 a.m.—Security discovered 12 items of graffiti on the Turner-Westin bridge. A patrol of the area was conducted, but no suspects were found. Photos of the property damage were taken.
9:40 a.m.—Security responded to a call from the Eichberg Hall building manager requesting assistance with a disorderly student. Security asked the student to leave the building because he was “making a scene” during class.
1:58 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her Coach purse was missing from a room at Wallin Hall. She stated that she had left the purse in the room at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 and that the purse was gone when she returned to the room at 4:30 p.m. on Oct.14. Police responded to dispatch to speak with the student and generated a report.
3 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had vandalized her vehicle by pouring paint on the hood and front windshield. She stated that the vehicle was parked in front of her room at Weston House and that she noticed the vehicle was damaged at noon on Oct. 14. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
7:04 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The fire department instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.
11:56 p.m.—Security discovered a fire door at Fahm Hall was unsecured. A patrol of the building was conducted and the door was then secured.
Oct. 17
6:12 a.m.— A SCAD student contacted security and stated the canvas top of his vehicle was cut on the passenger side and the console locks were broken. The vehicle was parked in the Oglethorpe House overflow parking lot. Police were called and filed a case number.
9:15 a.m.—Security responded to Barnard- Liberty streets parking lot in reference to a silver Toyota Corolla blocking the entrance. Upon arrival security attempted to contact the owner through parking services. After an hour and 15 minutes the vehicle was towed. Photos were taken.
12:44 p.m.—The alarm company called and security responded to a Barnard Village room in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived and no fire was found. No one was injured.
7:13 p.m.—The alarm company called and security responded to a Barnard Village room in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived and no fire was found. No one was injured.
7:26 p.m.—The alarm company called and security responded to a Barnard Village room in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived and no fire was found. No one was injured.
9:50 a.m.—A SCAD student at Dyson House called security and stated that he needed to go to hospital because he had a staph infection.
Oct. 18
8:47 a.m.—Security responded to a report of a homeless person sleeping near the Lai Wa garage. Security did not find anyone. The area will be given extra patrol.
10:14 a.m.—Security found the panel in Resident Life activated. The panel was reset.
7:30 p.m.—The alarm company called and security responded to a Barnard Village room in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived and no fire was found. No one was injured.
Oct. 19
7:20 p.m.—A fire alarm was reporter at the Equestrian Center.SCAD staff was onsite and stated that steam caused the alarm to activate.
7:26 p.m.—The alarm company called and security responded to a Barnard Village room in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived and no fire was found. No one was injured.
7:26 p.m.—A SCAD student pushed open a fire alarm door at Anderson Hall and activated the alarm.
