College Security Report Oct. 14-28, 2010
October 14
11:46 a.m. — Security responded to a report of an unknown male tampering with a vehicle parked across from Barnard Village. Security observed the male rolling a tire and carrying a tire iron towards Victory drive. The owner of the vehicle, a SCAD student, was contacted. The student requested police presence. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police issued a report.
12 p.m. Security responded to an alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Housekeeping accidentally triggered the pull station. The alarm was reset.
1:15 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Weston House. A bus clipped the awning of the building. The bus company agreed to pay for the damage to the building.
October 15
11:27 a.m. — Security noticed graffiti at the exterior of Crities Hall. Maintenance was notified.
12:36 p.m. — Security was contacted regarding several items missing. The complainant stated that she wad not sure if the items were stolen or delivered to the wrong location at SCAD. The police were notified and issued a crime report.
4:25 p.m. — Security received a report of a student who slipped and fell at Wallin Hall. The student refused medical treatment.
7:53 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm. Security along with Savannah Fire Department conducted a walk-through of the building. The system was reset and the fire panel was clear and returned back to normal.
October 16
4:50 a.m. — Security observed an unknown male entering a vehicle on the passenger side. The unknown male saw the officer then exited the vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted. The vehicle belonged to a SCAD student. The student was notified and stated no items were missing from the vehicle.
5:22 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Upon inspecting the building nothing was found. The system was reset and restored.
12:33 p.m. — Security responded to the River Club in reference to a SCAD student having an asthma attack. EMS transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center. The student’s resident director also responded to the River Club to arrange transportation from the hospital.
1:50 p.m. — Security responded to ashtray smoldering at Turner Bridge. An officer used a cup of water to extinguish it.
2 p.m. — Security reported to Weston House in reference to a student having a seizure. Security met EMS at the scene. The student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center.
2:20 p.m. — Security responded to a minor vehicle accident at Oglethope House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted but did not issue a report because the driver did not know where or when the accident occurred.
3:30 p.m. — Security reported to Alexander Hall in reference to a student damaging one of the art lamps in the front lobby area.
3:35 p.m. — Security responded to a report of a SCAD student with a cut hand at Clifford Hall. The student stated that they did not need EMS to response.
October 17
12:45 a.m. — Security responded to the Student Center regarding an intoxicated student who passed out. EMS was contacted and the student was transported.
1:36 a.m. — Security responded to a “warning” alarm at Kiah Hall. Maintenance was notified via maintenance log.
1:47 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident behind Turner House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was called. The accident did not involve any SCAD students. The driver of the accident drove into the trees behind Turner House.
10:56 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. After an investigation of the area there was no smoke found. The system was reset.
11:54 a.m. — The fire extinguisher housing unit was broken outside of a room in Oglethorpe House. Maintenance was notified.
5:13 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Abercorn Terrace Side A. A SCAD student reported that the vehicle was damaged in parking lot. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was notified and issued a report.
10:54 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. A SCAD student had been cooking in the room and caused the room to fill with smoke. The Savannah Fire Department responded and instructed the student to open the window.
11:30 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. Two students had been cooking in the room. The resident advisor was notified. No smoke or fire was found in the room.
October 18
8 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. A SCAD student had been cooking in the room and caused the room to fill with smoke. Security instructed the student to open the window.
8:10 p.m. — A SCAD student requested to speak with an on-call counselor. A counselor was notified of the request and later spoke with the student.
10:46 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Upon inspecting the building nothing was found. The system was reset and restored.
October 19
11:36 a.m. — Security reported to Habersham Hall in reference to a vehicle accident. Two of the three vehicles involved were parked. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted but did not issue a crime report. Police informed the driver to contact their insurance company. No injuries were reported.
12:05 p.m. — Security responded to Boundary Village in reference to a stolen bike. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was called and issued a crime report.
10:13 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. A SCAD student had been cooking in the room and caused the room to fill-up with smoke. Savannah Fire Department responded. There was no damage to the building.
11:23 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. Security conducted a check of the room and found no signs of a fire or smoke. The system was reset.
October 20
12:20 a.m. — Security reported to Dyson House in reference to a student conduct violation. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted and two students were arrested.
9:06 a.m. — Security responded to Boundary Village in reference to a stolen bike. A SCAD student stated the bike was present on Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. but gone when they returned the following morning. The bike was not registered and the student did not wish to request police.
10:45 a.m. — Security reported to Barnard Village in reference to a vehicle accident. A SCAD student claimed to have hit a security vehicle while backing out of a parking space. The security vehicle was parked behind the student car. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted.
11:05 a.m. — Security reported to Wallin Hall in reference to a vehicle accident. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report.
5:12 — The parent of a SCAD student contacted security requesting a welfare check on son. The parent stated that she had not heard from her son since Monday. The on-call manager was contacted. The student was approached at his off-campus residence and informed to call his mother.
7:08 p.m. — A student’s parent called security stating her daughter was being threatened by other students. The resident director contacted and informed the student to file a report through her MYSCAD account and Residence Life would get in tough with her. The student said she wad not sure who was threatening her.
8:57 p.m. — Security reported responded to Montgomery Hall in reference to a student with a BB gun. The student was informed of the rule and removed the item from the building.
10:30 p.m. — Security reported to Boundary Village in reference to missing film equipment. It was determined that because students did not have permission to use the equipment, the employees at Hamilton Hall had retrieved it.
October 21
12:10 p.m. — Security reported to Oglethorpe House in reference to a sick student. EMS was notified and the student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center.
2:10 p.m. — Security reported to Pepe Hall in reference to an injured student. EMS was notified and the student was not transported. The student reported that the injury occurred on Oct. 20.
2:45 p.m. — A SCAD student entered security dispatch to report a stolen bike. The student stated the bike was present on Oct. 19 at 11:30 p.m. It was missing when the student returned the next day. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police issued a crime report.
6:25 p.m. — A SCAD student requested to speak with an on-call counselor. A counselor was notified and later spoke with the student.
7:53 p.m. — Security reported a power outage during the soccer game. Maintenance was notified and South Carolina Power was also contacted.
October 22
3 a.m. — Security received a report of graffiti at the rear of Pinnacle Gallery. Maintenance was notified and arrived to remove the image.
5:20 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Hamilton Hall. The building manager entered the building and failed to turn off the alarm.
5:29 p.m. — Security reported to Dyson House in reference to a sick student. EMS was notified. The resident advisor and director were both present at the scene. The student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center.
8:45 p.m. — Security contacted ABM Janitorial Services in reference to a room without power.
10:04 p.m. — Security reported to Turner House in reference to students drinking in the room. All students were underage and one person in the room was a non-SCAD student.
October 23
12:45 a.m. — Security reported to Casey House in reference to an unsecured door. The entrance door to the garage could not be secured. Security increase patrol of the area. The door was placed on the maintenance log.
2:23 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.
2:23 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Habersham Hall. The fire gate alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.
12:05 p.m. — Security reported to Weston lobby in reference to a sick student. The resident director was contacted and arranged for the student to be transported back to their dorm. The student declined medical treatment. The on-call manager was notified.
1:20 p.m. — A SCAD student entered security dispatch to report a bike stolen from his off-campus residence. The bike was registered with SCAD security. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted and issued a crime report.
3:20 p.m. — Security reported to Dyson in reference to a sick student. The student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center by EMS. The resident director was on site and the on-call manager was notified.
6:03 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. It was determined that a student had been cooking the room and burned their food. The room filled with smoke and activated the alarm. The alarm was reset.
7:50 p.m. — Security responded to student locked out of their room. There was debris in the lock so the security manager notified the locksmith.
10:57 p.m. — Security reported to Dyson House in reference to an injured student. The student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center by EMS.
October 24
2 a.m. — A SCAD student requested to speak with an on-call counselor. A counselor was notified of the request and spoke with the student.
4:45 a.m. — Security reported to Boundary Village in reference to a sick student. The student was examined by EMS and stated that they were feeling better.
11:15 a.m. — A SCAD student entered security dispatch to report a stolen bike. The student stated the bike was present on Oct. at 10:40 a.m. but gone Oct. 23 at 11:15 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report.
1:07 p.m. — Security responded to student locked out of their room. The student could not enter because the electronic key system lost power. The security manager notified the locksmith.
6:02 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.
6:30 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. A student had been cooking in the room. The student was advised to open the window to clear the air. The system was reset.
8:41 p.m. — Security dispatch received a phone call from a concerned parent of a friend of a SCAD student. The parent stated that the student said her son was depressed. The friend had not heard from the student all day and was concerned. The resident director and on-call counselor were both contacted by security.
11:40 p.m. — A SCAD student requested to speak with an on-call counselor. The counselor was notified and later spoke with the student.
October 25
11:36 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.
10:15 p.m. — Security received a call regarding the death of a SCAD student’s father. Security contacted the on-call manager and relayed the information.
10:37 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus hit and run vehicle accident involving a SCAD student’s vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report. There were no injuries reported.
October 26
6:44 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.
8:15 p.m. — A SCAD faculty member reported that the rear window to his vehicle had been broken while his car was parked at Montgomery Hall. Mr. Shaw did not wish to file a police report.
9:40 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was caused by students cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.
October 27
12:16 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm in a room of Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.
10:25 a.m. — Security responded to Arnold Hall in reference to a student’s bug bite. The student stated that she had been feeling sick since the bite. The student declined EMS and was driven to the SCAD clinic by a friend.
2:02 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.
7:30 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident outside the Wallin Gate. There were no injuries and neither party wanted police response.
October 28
11 a.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident at Oglethorpe and Jefferson streets involving a SCAD student. No injuries were reported. Neither party wished to wait for police response.
11 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from an off-campus location at Barnard and Congress streets. The student stated that she locked the bike at 2 p.m. the day before and it was gone when she returned at midnight. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report.
11:20 a.m. — Security responded to Weston/Dyson in reference to a SCAD student injured after falling off her bike. EMS responded and bandaged the student’s right knee. The student was not transported to the hospital.
11:33 p.m. — Security responded to a fire pull station at Dyson House. The alarm was determined to have been a false alarm and the pull station was reset.
