College Security Report Oct. 17-23, 2011

October 17

2:30 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus bike accident at Montgomery and Liberty streets involving two SCAD students. EMS responded to the scene and both students were transported to Memorial University Medical Center.

4 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Henry Street involving a student and a non-SCAD individual. There were no injuries reported. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

October 18

12:01 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage in the elevator at Oglethorpe House. Maintenance was notified of the damage.

12:45 a.m. — A student reported to security that the front tire of his bike had been stolen while the bike was at the Student Center. The student did not wish to file a report with police.

8:20 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Abercorn Terrace involving a student with a dislocated shoulder. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

3:27 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room of Dyson House involving a student who fell and struck his head. The student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center via Yellow Cab.

3:45 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at the parking lot across the street from Turner House involving a student struck by a car. The student stated that the vehicle barely touched her and that she was uninjured. The driver of the vehicle stopped but departed after the student said she did not need medical attention and had no injuries.

4:03 p.m. — Security responded to Hamilton Annex in reference to a door that could not be secured. Maintenance was notified of the issue.

October 19

8:02 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Barnard Village. It was determined that a student cooking in the room caused the alarm.

8:30 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

8:43 p.m. — A SCAD parent called security requesting an on-call counselor. Security contacted the counselor and passed along the parent’s contact information.

October 20

6:10 p.m. — A SCAD professor reported to security that a penguin prop mask was missing from a room of Anderson Hall. The professor stated that the item was last seen at 7 p.m. the night before. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene, but did not issue a crime report.

6:50 p.m. — Security responded to a minor electrical fire at a room of Hamilton Hall. A student accidentally bumped into an electrical outlet with equipment causing the wire leading to the outlet to separate from its casing. The minor fire was put out with a fire extinguisher and the power to the outlet was shut off at the fuse box. Maintenance was notified.

8:29 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at a room of Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

11:21 Security responded to a medical call at a room of Dyson House in reference to a student having an allergic reaction to medication. The resident director was notified and arranged for the student to be transported to Memorial University Medical Center via Yellow Cab.

October 21

3:39 a.m. — Security responded to a room of Turner House at the request of the resident adviser. The RA smelled marijuana when questioning the occupants of a room about a noise complaint. Upon arrival at the scene, an operations manager claimed to also smell marijuana. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was called. Police questioned the students but did not file any charges because there were no visible signs of drugs in the room.

8:05 a.m. — Security responded to a pull station activation alarm at a building in Barnard Village. No one was in the vicinity of the alarm and there were no signs of fire or smoke. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

9:25 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at a room of Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

10:45 a.m. — A student reported to security that her bike was stolen from Oglethorpe House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

10:54 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage in elevator #1 of Oglethorpe House. Maintenance was notified of the damage.

12:47 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Barnard Village. A student cooking in the room was determined to have caused the alarm.

2:32 p.m. — A student reported to security that the back window of her vehicle was broken sometime between Oct. 18 and 21. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

3:55 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Victory Drive and Abercorn Street involving a SCAD-owned vehicle and a non-SCAD vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

11:14 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

October 22

12:44 a.m. — Security responded to medical call at a room of Oglethorpe House in reference to a student not feeling well. The student believed someone might have placed drugs in something she was drinking at an off-campus party. EMS responded to the scene and checked the student’s vitals. The student stated that she would just go to sleep and did not need to go to the hospital.

3:14 a.m. — Security responded to a room of Turner House in reference to an unresponsive, intoxicated student. EMS and Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene where it was determined the student was able to return to his room and “Sleep it off”.

7 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call in the lobby area of Oglethorpe House in reference to a student who fell and bumped his head earlier in the night but was suddenly feeling dizzy. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital.

8:34 p.m. — Security observed a person in a truck repeatedly stopping in front of Bergen Hall and attempting to talk to students. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was informed of the suspicious behavior and given a description of the truck.

8:42 p.m. — A student reported to security that a fellow was sitting on his vehicle and staring at her window. Security informed the resident director who stated that he would speak with male student regarding the complaint.

9:45 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike was stolen from the bike rack at the Student Center. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
