College Security Report: Oct. 28-Nov. 5, 2008

Oct. 28

12:47 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

1:25 p.m.—Security discovered graffiti in the first floor men’s restroom of Oglethorpe House. Pictures were taken of the damage.

2 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that someone had hit her vehicle while it was parked in the Gulfstream parking lot, damaging the rear driver’s side of the vehicle. She stated that she had parked the car at 8 a.m. and that she noticed the damage when she returned to the vehicle at 1:45 p.m. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

6:05 p.m.—Security responded to a medical at Anderson Hall. A SCAD student stated that she had passed out and had a headache. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Health University Medical Center.

7 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her bike was missing from the bike rack at Crites Hall. She stated that she had locked the bike to the rack at 2 p.m. and that the bike was missing when she returned at 4:30 p.m. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

7:45 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that two black males had robbed him while he was walking from 49th Street lot to Barnard Village. No weapons were present. He stated that the men asked him for his money and that he gave the men his wallet. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

Oct. 29

9:40 a.m.—Security responded to a call regarding a burning odor at Morris Hall. It was determined that the smell was coming from the elevator shaft. Maintenance and the elevator technician responded to the scene.

10:26 a.m.—Security responded to a motor vehicle collision at Crites Hall. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

6:27 p.m.—A SCAD Student reported to security that she had observed another SCAD student take candy from the Black Student Association table. She stated that she confronted him and he returned the candy.

8:50 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that he had been robbed while riding his bike down Barnard Street towards Turner House from Montgomery Hall. The suspect took his bike. Police and EMS responded to the scene and the student was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center. Police generated a report.

Oct. 30

1:52 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. No smoke was present and the alarm was determined to be false. The alarm was silenced and reset by security.

7:24 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Turner House. A SCAD student was complaining of shortness of breath. EMS responded to the scene and, after evaluating the student, determined that he did not need to be transported.

8:01 a.m.—Security responded to a vehicle collision at Montgomery Hall involving an American Coach Line bus and a student’s vehicle. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

7:23 p.m.—Security responded to a vehicle accident at Montgomery Hall involving a student operated vehicle and a non-SCAD driver. Police responded to the scene and generated a report. No injuries were reported.

7:24 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Jen Library. A SCAD student was complaining of chest pains. EMS responded to the scene and evaluated the student. The student refused transport.

10:17 p.m.—Security discovered an exterior fire door at York Hall was unsecured. A patrol was conducted of the building and security secured the door.

Oct. 31

1:53 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

10:18 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Arnold Hall. A SCAD student stated that she had passed out. EMS responded to the scene and decided that the student did not need to be transported.

4:55 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at York hall involving a student having emotional issues. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Health University Medical Center. The on call counselor was on site when security arrived on the scene.

11:58 p.m.—Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Forsyth Hall. Security patrolled the area and reset the door.

Nov. 1

10:55 a.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Hamilton Hall. Savannah Fire Department responded to the site and determined it was a false alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

2:06 p.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Boundary Village. Security determined it was a false alarm and silenced and reset the alarm.

11:41 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Barnard Village. A SCAD student had taken a overdose of Advil (130-140 pills). EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler Hospital. On call manager and counselor were notified.

Nov. 2

8:10 a.m.—Security discovered a crack in the window of the dispatch office. Maintenance was notified of the situation.

8:15 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at the Coastal Georgia Center parking Lot. A SCAD student stated that he had fallen off his skateboard and injured his ankle. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler Hospital.

8:40 p.m.—Security was notified by a SCAD student that he had been mugged while walking near Oglethorpe Avenue and Whitaker Street. He stated that four men hit him on the side of his head. Police had already been notified and had issued a report..

9:45 p.m.—Security responded to a drug policy violation at Turner Annex. A resident assistant stated that a SCAD student had told her that her roommate and her boyfriend had smoked drugs in the bathroom. The RA and the resident director found two pieces of paper and a plastic container in the bathroom. Police responded to the scene and stated that there was not enough evidence to generate a report.

Nov. 3

7:35 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. No smoke was present and the alarm was determined to be false. The alarm was silenced and reset by security.

10:35 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Hamilton Hall. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that someone had pulled a pull station in the building. No smoke was present and the fire department instructed security to silence and reset the system.

1 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that he bicycle was missing from Morris Hall. She stated that she had locked the bike at 11 a.m. and that the bike was gone when she returned at 1 p.m. The wire lock had been cut. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

1:45 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she was approached by an unknown man while she was riding her bike near Price and Anderson streets. The unknown male asked her for money and when she refused he attempted to grab her bike. She stated that she gave the man $2 and he departed. She did not wish to file a police report.

2:31 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Turner Annex. A SCAD student was complaining that he was not feeling well and needed transportation to the emergency room. He stated that he did not want EMS transport.

3:30 p.m.—Security discovered that the gate on the Habersham side entrance to Anderson Hall had been damaged. Security took photos of the damage.

5:25 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Pulaski House. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Savannah Fire Department instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.

Nov. 4

4:46 a.m.—Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Turner House. By the time security arrived, the student was able to get out of the elevator, but the elevator was still not functioning properly. The elevator was taken out of service and the elevator repair company was notified.

8:30 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Montgomery Hall. A SCAD student was complaining of chest pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler hospital.

9:39 a.m.—Security discovered graffiti in the courtyard area of Eichberg Hall. Photos were taken of the damage.

11:26 a.m.—A SCAD faculty member reported to security that his jump drive was missing from his desk at Eichberg Hall. He stated that he had left the drive at his desk at 7:50am to attend class and that the item was gone when he returned to the room at 10 a.m. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

7:08 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Arnold Hall. A SCAD student stated that she was having difficulty swallowing. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to the hospital.

11:20 p.m.—The resident director at Turner House requested security assistance for crowd control. A large group of SCAD students were congregating in the area in response to the presidential election. Security remained on site until the crowd dispersed. There were no problems reported because of the crowd.

Nov. 5

7:51 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. There were no occupants in the room and no sign of smoke. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

12:31 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined it was a false alarm. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

6:48 p.m.—Security discovered the front door at Old Arch was unsecured. A patrol of the building was conducted and security secured the door.
