College Security Report Oct. 29-Nov. 7, 2010

October 29

12:03 a.m. — Security responded to a room at Turner House to assist with a possible drug policy violation. Two resident directors were on site and stated that one of the room’s occupants reported that the other had Marijuana in the room. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene but would not conduct a search. The resident directors decided not to search the room, but stated that they would speak with the roommate when she returned.

2:30 a.m. — Security responded to a “door” alarm at Hamilton Hall. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

2:45 a.m. — Security responded to an unresponsive person at Oglethorpe House. At the scene, security observed A SCAD student sleeping on a bench. Security was able to wake the student who stated he had fallen asleep while waiting for friends. He did not need further assistance.

6 a.m. — A SCAD student reported his bike had been stolen from Boundary Village. The student stated he secured the bike to the hanging wall rack on the first floor of the building at 5 p.m. the night before and the bike and lock were gone when he returned at 6 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

8:30 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Eichberg Hall. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm caused by the Sonitrol testing the system.

11:13 a.m. — A SCAD employee reported to security that her vehicle had been vandalized while parked at Oglethorpe House. The damage included a scratch and liquid smeared on the driver’s side door. There was also a note left on the vehicle making the employee believe the damage was caused by a student. She did not wish to notify police.

2:54 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her off-campus residence had been burglarized sometime the day before. She stated that she had already filed a report with Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.

8:11 p.m. — Security responded to a small fire at Clifford Hall. A staff member stated he was working on a project and the laser he was using caused a piece of cardboard to catch fire. The fire was very small and caused no damage.

11:50 p.m. — Security responded to a “fire” alarm at Dyson House. Security determined that all pull stations were in their normal positions and that the alarm was a false alarm. The system was silenced and reset.

October 30

11:40 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. The alarm restored itself prior to security’s arrival.

2 p.m. — Security responded to a report of vehicle damage to a First Transit bus at Fahm Hall. It was determined that the grou7undskeeper accidentally kicked a rock and hit the bus door shattering the window.

7:19 p.m. — Security responded to a “Smoke” alarm in a room of Pulaski House. The alarm was determined to have been caused by students cooking. The alarm was silenced and reset.

10:16 p.m. — A resident adviser reported to security that she had seen a possible student drinking a beer in the Turner House stairwell area. The individual was in a Halloween costume and refused to show ID. When approached, the individual jumped the fence at Turner Bridge and ran away.

10:39 p.m. — A SCAD student complained to security that the “Safe Ride” would not take him and his non-student friends from his off-campus residence to a pub. The transport policies were explained to the student.

October 31

5:01 p.m. — A SCAD student requested to be transferred to the on-call counselor. Dispatch gave the counselor the student’s contact information.

November 1

7:30 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her driver-side mirror had been damaged while her vehicle was parked on 61st Street near Abercorn Terrace. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report.

1:04 p.m. — A SCAD employee reported to security that an EOS XS1 camera was missing from the first floor workroom of Clarence Thomas Center. The employee stated that the camera was left in the room on Oct. 20 and discovered missing on Oct. 25. He explained that the classroom is usually locked at night, but remains open to students during the day. He did not wish to have Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified.

1:25 p.m. — Security responded to a report of a student in respiratory distress at Montgomery Hall. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

10:10 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her chair slipped out from under her and she fell, striking her head. The student declined EMS response.

10:06 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at a room in Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to have been a false alarm and the system was reset.

11:08 p.m. — Security responded to an “intrusion” alarm at Norris Hall. Security met Savannah-Chatham Metro Police at the scene and it was determined that the building was secure. The alarm was a false alarm and Sonitrol was notified of the discrepancy.

November 2

1:50 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus medical call at Gwinnett and Habersham streets. A SCAD student stated that she was bicycling when she hit a pot hole and fell from her bike injuring her head, left shoulder and right knee. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

November 3

No activity reported.

November 4

6:40 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Café SCAD. Security discovered a rep from Sonitrol already at the cafe working on the alarm. The rep stated that the alarm was a false alarm and that he would take the alarm off line until the repairs could be completed.

November 5

No activity reported.

November 6

2:34 p.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that a student-owned vehicle had been damaged at Barnard and Wayne streets. Police discovered that both back windows of the vehicle had been shattered. The student could not be located and police left a crime report on the vehicle.

5:25 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Arnold Hall. The alarm was placed on the maintenance list.

10:30 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Club SCAD. The student stated that she secured the bike at noon the day before and the bike was gone when she returned. She did not wish to have police notified.

November 7

12:35 a.m. — Security responded to Oglethorpe House in reference to an intoxicated student lying on an outside bench. EMS responded to the scene and checked the student but did not transport him. A resident adviser stated that several intoxicated students were seen leaving the building after being asked for IDs. The remaining individual was allowed to depart to an off-campus location with two friends.

1:20 a.m. — Security responded to medical call at Turner House involving a student having an allergic reaction. The student believed the reaction might have been caused by something environmental. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

1:50 a.m. — Security discovered the main door to “The Spot” unsecured. Security patrolled the area and secured the door.

7:21 p.m. — Security responded to a “fire” alarm at Corbin Hall. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene and the alarm was determined to be a false alarm. The system was silenced and reset.

9:07 p.m. — Security responded to vehicle accident at Montgomery Hall. A student stated that because another vehicle had parked to close to her, she had trouble backing out and had struck a dumpster in the process. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.
