College Security Report: Oct. 6-12, 2008

Oct. 6

5:12 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that his bike was stolen from the bike rack at Norris Hall. He stated that he had last seen the bike at 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 and that the bike was gone when he checked on it at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 6. Police responded to security and advised the student to find the bike’s serial number a report could be generated. The bike was not registered with SCAD security.

Oct. 7

11 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen her bicycle while it was unsecured at her off campus apartment. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

9:50 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Turner Annex. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene, determined it was false alarm and instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.

10:15 a.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her bicycle was stolen from the rear bike rack at Oglethorpe House. She stated that she had locked the bike to the rack about three weeks ago and that the bike was gone when she returned on Oct. 7. Police responded to the scene and generated a report. The bike was not registered with SCAD security.

10:38 a.m.—Security discovered the gate at the Equestrian Center was unsecured. A patrol of the area was conducted and gate was secured.

Oct. 8

2:10 a.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she was being harassed by a female residing on Barnard Street. She stated that the subject began yelling at her when she attempted to park her car in front of a Barnard Street residence. Police were notified and responded to the scene.

10:32 a.m.—A SCAD student reported to security her purse and wallet were missing. She stated that she was waiting for the bus and that she had forgotten that she left her purse on the fence when she entered the bus. When she returned to the scene moments later, the purse was gone. She did not want police to response.

12:23 p.m.—Security was notified of a vehicle collision on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, in front of Bergen Hall, involving a SCAD student and a non-SCAD individual. Police responded to the scene and generated a report. No injuries were reported.

8:35 p.m.—Security was notified of an off campus vehicle crash involving a SCAD bus. Police responded to the scene and generated a report. No injuries were reported.

9:08 a.m.—The mother of SCAD student informed security that she was unable to get in touch with her daughter and was concerned because she had seen her daughters e-mail account and her daughter had spoken in her e-mails about harming herself. Security immediately notified the on call manger. A follow up call from the parent indicated that the student had been located and was traveling back home.

Oct. 10

12:03 a.m.— Security discovered an alley door of Trustees Theater was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and then secured the door.

1:13 a.m.—Security reported to Barnard Village, where a student stated she was experiencing extreme stomach pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler Hospital.

7:17 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in a room at Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be a false and no smoke was present. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

11:20 a.m.—Security responded to a vehicle collision at Boundary Village. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

12:30 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at the student center. She stated that she had locked the bike to the rack at noon on Oct. 9 and that the bike was gone when she returned at 12:30 p.m . on Oct. 10. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

2 p.m.—SCAD employee reported that two projectors were missing from Eichberg Hall. She sated the projectors were taken from rooms 105 and 304. The projector in room 105 was last seen at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 9. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

3 p.m.—Security responded to a call of a disorderly student at the Turner House bus stop. Security spoke with complainant who stated that there was a student yelling and crying on the bus. A SCAD student was visibly upset and crying. She stated that she was upset because the buses were always late. Security determined that she was upset to the point that the the on call counseler needed to be notified. The counselor spoke with the student at York Hall.

3:45 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to the security officer at Boundary Village that the security gate arm had closed early and had struck her vehicle causing scratches to the paint. She stated that she had swiped her card and that the gate opened, but the gate closed prior to her car going all the way through. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

4:20 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that someone had damaged her vehicle by pulling of a political sticker from the back window of her vehicle. Security responded to the scene and no damage to the vehicle was observed other than the removal of the sticker.

8:13 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in a room at Pulaski House. The alarm was determined to have been caused by a student cooking in the room. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.

Oct. 11

12:50 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in a room at Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and no smoke was present. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.

2:38 a.m.—Security stopped a non-student from entering Turner House using a student’s ID card to see his girlfriend. The resident assistant was notified and confiscated the ID. The individual left without further incident.

12:23 a.m.—Security responded to a student trapped in an elevator at Turner House. Upon security arrival, the student had already been able to get out of the elevator. Security tested the elevator and confirmed that the elevator was not functioning properly. Atlantic Elevator Services was notified of the incident.

5:23 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in room at Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm with no smoke was present. Savannah Fire Department did not respond to this incident. Security silenced and reset the alarm.

9:51 p.m.—Security discovered the back door of JO’s was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and then secured the door.

Oct. 12

4 p.m.—A SCAD student called security to report that she and her boyfriend had been mugged at her off campus apartment at 4 a.m. Police had already been notified and had generated a report.

1:30 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Turner House. A student stated she had fainted in her room. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Health University Medical Center.

1:30 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her brown leather purse containing an iPod, iPhone and various credit cards had been stolen from the second floor lab at Eichberg Hall. She stated that she had left her purse at the work station to make copies downstairs and that the purse was gone when she returned 8-10 minutes later. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

1:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her Dell laptop had been stolen from the second floor lab at Eichberg Hall. She stated that she had left the laptop at the work station to make copies downstairs and that the purse was gone when she returned 5-10 minutes later. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

1:30 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that his pen set, valued at $120 had been stolen from the shed area on the first floor of Eichberg Hall. He stated he had left the pens at the work station for 5 minutes and that the were gone when he returned. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

5:20 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in a room at Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The fire department instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.

10:30 p.m.—Security discovered the back door to JO’s was unsecured. The door’s lock was malfunctioning. A work order was placed to repair it.
