College Security Report Sep. 23 – Oct. 2, 2011

September 23

12:01 a.m. — Security responded to a minor vehicle accident at Boundary Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

12:05 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

1:44 a.m. — Security received a call requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Security passed on the student’s information to the counselor.

10:46 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

11:13 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

1:30 p.m. — A student reported to security that his wallet was missing. The student stated that he lost his wallet somewhere between Dyson House and SCAD Café. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

4:30 p.m. — A student reported to security that her wallet was missing. The student stated that she lost her wallet on Sep. 16. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

8:02 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

11:18 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus accident at Barnard and Henry streets. No injuries were reported. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

September 24

1:23 a.m. — A student requested a ride to Turner House. The student was intoxicated and having difficulty getting in the vehicle. Security contacted the resident adviser and the student was taken to his room.

2:09 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security that they stopped a student as he was entering Weston/Dyson. The student was driving his scooter erratically and appeared to be intoxicated. Security arranged for the student to get to his room.

4:50 a.m. — Security discovered a homeless person sleeping near Turner House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and removed the individual from site.

8:04 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage on the bridge at Turner. Maintenance was notified of the damage.

10:55 a.m. — A student reported to security that she lost her wallet while off campus. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

September 25

11:30 a.m. — Security discovered the portable toilets at Dyson Field turned over. Maintenance was notified of the damage.

September 26

12:05 a.m. — Security removed a snake from the vicinity of Weston Dyson.

12:26 a.m. — Security responded to a report of possible marijuana use in a room at Turner House. Two students admitted to Savannah-Chatham Metro Police that they were in possession of marijuana. Police arrested one of the students and issues a crime report.

September 27

11:15 a.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident at 35th and Montgomery streets. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and EMS were already on the scene when security arrived. The students declined medical attention and were given a ride back to campus. Police issued a crime report.

12:16 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Eichberg Hall involving a student that had a seizure. EMS responded to the scene, but the student refused transport.

12:55 p.m. — A student reported to security that a pair of jeans was missing from the second floor laundry room at Oglethorpe House. The student stated that the jeans went missing sometime during the previous evening.

1:18 p.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene where the alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was then reset.

7 p.m. — Two non-SCAD individuals reported to security that an unknown man pulled a gun on them at an off-campus location near Montgomery Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

7:33 p.m. — Security observed a male loitering near the 49th Street lot. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene, but the individual left prior to police arrival.

9:20 p.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

September 28

11:13 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at a room of Barnard Village. An investigation determined that the smoke detector was faulty and Stanley Convergent Security Solutions was notified and scheduled the installation of a new smoke detector.

11:50 a.m. — A SCAD employee notified security that $540 in soccer balls were missing from Club SCAD. The employee stated that the last time the equipment was seen was the week prior. She did not wish to have a police report completed.

12:15 p.m. — A student reported to security that she mistakenly left a Nintendo DS and four games on the orange or red line bus. Security contacted First Transit who stated that they would call security if the items were found.

3:27 p.m. — A SCAD building manager reported to security that a sound recording device was missing from Hamilton Hall. The device was last seen on Sep. 20 and was noticed to be missing on Sep. 21. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

8:19 p.m. — Security discovered graffiti on a side wall of Keys Hall. Security notified maintenance of the damage.

9:11 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm activation at a room of Boundary Village. An investigation determined that a student cooking in the room caused the alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

10:10 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Turner House involving a student complaining of stomach and chest pains. EMS responded to the scene and the student was transported to St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital.

10:30 — Security responded to a medical call at a room of Abercorn Commons involving a student who fell on the steps and twisted her ankle. The student did not wish to have EMS called and was transported to her dorm at Pulaski House.

11:34 p.m. — Security observed three males loitering near the bike rack on the north side of Abercorn Terrace. The individuals left the scene when they saw security. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was notified of the incident and increase patrols in the area.

September 29

8:55 p.m. — Security responded to a medical incident at Montgomery Hall regarding a student that struck her head on a table. The student stated that she was “horsing around” when she fell causing a gash near her right eye. EMS responded to the scene but a friend transported the student to the hospital.

9:48 p.m. — A student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the south side of Dyson House. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

September 30

6:52 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

8:51 p.m. — A SCAD parent called security and stated that his daughter was having trouble with her roommates. The parent explained that a resident advisor was contacted about the situation but nothing was done. Security contacted the resident director who called the parent.

11:02 p.m. — Security discovered two unsecured doors at the Streamliner Diner. Security patrolled the building and found nothing out of the ordinary. Security then secured the doors.

October 1

3:29 a.m. — Security discovered an unsecured set of double doors on the north side of Boundary Hall. A patrol of the building was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered. The door was then secured.

7:10 p.m. — A student reported to security that she misplaced her SCAD ID and a bank debit card. Hours later, another student contacted her via Facebook to say that he found the items and would return them only after she wrote him a poem. The female student was extremely upset and requested to speak with Savannah-Chatham Metro Police. Police and a resident advisor responded and contacted the male student who returned the items without further incident claiming that he was just trying to be “playful”.

10:06 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus bicycle accident at Barnard and West Huntington streets involving a student that hit a vehicle with his bike causing injuries to his face. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

11:17 p.m. — Security responded to call from Turner House regarding a male student who, while waiting to speak with his ex-girlfriend, went into her bathroom and urinated on the bathroom floor and tore down the shower curtain then left. Approximately 30 minutes later a call regarding this same student stated that he appeared emotionally disturbed and was lying under a vehicle. A resident advisor and security responded to the scene. When approached, the student became verbally abusive and threatening then ran off. The student was later located in his ex-girlfriend’s room. The resident director contacted the Dean of Students and Savannah-Chatham Metro Police. Police escorted the student back to his room.

11:50 p.m. — A student reported to security that a pack of animation paper was missing stolen from a room of Montgomery Hall. She stated that she asked a friend to watch her items while she left the room and when she returned the paper was gone. None of her other personal items were missing and students in the area did not see anyone take the paper.
