College Security Report Sep. 24-29, 2010

September 24

2:25 p.m. — A SCAD student reported that the right front quarter panel of his car had been damaged while parked at Dyson House. The student did not want police response.

5:34 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

9:30 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by steam from the shower.

11:40 a.m. — Security responded to a “fire door” alarm at Oglethorpe House. Security reset the alarm.

12:27 p.m. — Security discovered a vehicle at the Streamliner Diner with two flat tires and an expired registration. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and was able to contact the owner. The owner of the vehicle stated that he would remove the vehicle from the property by the end of the day.

2:15 p.m. — A student entered JO’s Diner complaining that he was overheated and requested water. Security asked if the student needed EMS, but the student declined.  Security escorted the student to his apartment.

3:18 p.m. — Security discovered the exterior maintenance room at Arnold Hall to be unsecured and the computer equipment inside damaged. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

2:30 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus medical situation involving a student that had fallen of his bike. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

8:42 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House involving a SCAD student with dishwashing liquid in his eye. EMS responded to the scene, but the student declined treatment. The student flushed his eye with water and stated that he was fine.

September 25

1:17 a.m. — Security responded to Weston House for a medical call involving a student having a panic attack. EMS responded to the scene and stated that her vitals were fine.  The student stated that she did not need further attention.

1 p.m. — A SCAD student reported that he lost his wallet at the Student Center. A search of the building was conducted but the wallet could not be located. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was called at the student’s request and a crime report was issued.

September 26

12:45 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Keys Hall. The student stated that she secured the bike at 11 p.m. and the bike was gone when she returned. The student declined Savannah-Chatham Metro Police response.

8:58 a.m. — Security discovered a large, broken flowerpot outside of River Club. ABM Janitorial Services was called for clean up.

12:25 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm but would not reset. Sonitrol was notified to send a technician to check the system.

September 27

9:35 a.m. — A SCAD student contacted security regarding a lost key for a bike lock. Security contacted “Pop-A-Lock” and transferred them to the student.

11:50 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. A patrol of the area was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered. The alarm was silenced and reset.

11:05 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Turner House involving a student suffering from abdominal pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

11:54 p.m. — Security responded to Abercorn Terrace regarding student upset after receiving a call from their mother. Upon arrival at the scene security was able to get the student to call the on-call counselor. The counselor stated that the student agreed to meet with the counselor the next morning.

September 28

8:12 a.m. — Security responded to an off-campus medical call on Jones Street involving a SCAD student who fell off her bike after hitting a cab door. The student suffered scrapes and bruises but did not want EMS response. Security arranged to have the student and her bike taken to her dorm.

10:51 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Barnard Village involving a SCAD student complaining of back pain. The student stated that she heard a “pop” in her back while she stood up from sitting on a curb. The student took a pain killer and laid in bed but stated she was still finding it difficult to move. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

12:15 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was not able to be silenced. Sonitrol was notified of the problem and stated that they would make repairs.

12:30 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from his off-campus residence. The student stated that he locked the bike to a parking meter at 10 p.m. Sep. 26 and the bike was missing when he returned late the next day. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a report.

12:38 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Forsyth House. The student stated that he locked the bike to the bike rack at 10 p.m. Sep. 26 and the bike was missing when he returned at 7 a.m. Sep. 28. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a report.

5:15 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the side stairwell at Oglethorpe House. The student stated that she locked the bike to the stairwell at 10 p.m. Sep. 23 and the bike was missing when she returned at 5:15 p.m. Sep. 28. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a report.

September 29

2:30 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Barnard Village. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and the system was reset.

2:36 a.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Security responded to the scene but no alarm was active in the verified room. Sonitrol was notified of the discrepancy.

4:54 a.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of multiple alarms at Kiah Hall. Sonitrol stated that the alarms were caused by a power surge and that they would reset themselves.

3:20 p.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Security responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was a false alarm but the system was not able to be reset. Sonitrol and a physical resources manager were informed of the problem.
