College Security Report Sep. 29-Oct. 10, 2010

September 30

1:55 a.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of a “trouble” alarm at Montgomery Hall. Security responded to the scene but the alarm panel indicated that all systems were normal. A patrol of the area was conducted and no discrepancies were found.

3:19 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that several homeless people were approaching Weston/Dyson and trying to get students to come over to the fence line. Security responded to the scene and asked the individuals to move away from SCAD property. Extra patrols of the area were ordered for the rest of the night.

1:20 p.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Security responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was a false alarm but the system was not able to be reset. Sonitrol was informed of the problem.

4 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her IPod and phone had been stolen from inside a vehicle. The student stated that she left the items unattended in the unlocked car for two hours. She also stated that she would notify Savannah-Chatham Metro Police at a later time when she had all of the serial numbers.

4:32 p.m. — Security responded to a student having a seizure in Anderson Hall. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

11 p.m. — A resident director reported that he found several students smoking in a room of Turner Annex. The Residence Life staff discovered items that could be considered drug paraphernalia. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and took possession of the items.

October 1

2:20 a.m. — An ABM Janitorial Services employee reported seeing three men using a spray can in the area of the Student Center causing graffiti damage. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted and were able to take two of the men into custody.

4:29 p.m. — Security responded to a slip and fall at the River Club. A SCAD student stated that she tripped on the interior stairs but was uninjured. The student requested transportation back to her dorm.

October 2

6:40 p.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Security responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was a false alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

6:51 p.m. — Sonitrol notified dispatch of a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Security responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was a false alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

October 3

12:08 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Dyson House involving a student that had fallen off of his skateboard and cut his head. The student declined a call to EMS and stated he would have a friend drive him to the hospital.

3:08 a.m. — Security responded to a call at Tuner Annex involving a student who thought her roommate was intoxicated. Security spoke with the roommate who stated that she had not had any alcohol but had taken two sleeping pills.

October 4

12:17 p.m. — Security dispatch was contacted with a complaint about trucks being parked at the Arnold Hall loading dock for over an hour. The caller stated this causes problems for the residents who need to leave the area. She requested that someone from the college contact her about the issue.

3:15 p.m. — A local businessman contacted security in reference to some of his employees receiving parking tickets in the overflow parking area behind Old Arch Hall. A representative at Parking Services was contacted about the mistake.

4:31 p.m. — A woman entered Alexander Hall and made threats toward several employees, some specifically named. The woman had a knife on her person when the threats were made. An operations manager informed the woman that she was no longer permitted on SCAD property until she contacted Student Services. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted but arrived after the individual had left the area.

6:50 — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Barnard Village. After an inspection, the alarm was silenced and reset.

October 5

No activity reported.

October 6

9:30 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at the Clarence Thomas Center. A patrol of the area was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was found. Sonitrol was notified and stated that they would check the system.

October 7

10:35 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that there was approximately $200 worth of pencils, paints and pastels missing from his studio at Alexander Hall. The student stated that someone might have entered the studio by coming over the wall from the neighboring studio.

12:33 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Boundary Village. The alarm was determined to have been caused by students cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

2:30 p.m. — Security responded to a “panic” alarm at Clinard Hall. Security met Savannah-Chatham Metro Police at the scene and the alarm was determined to have been a false alarm.

2:40 p.m. — Security responded to East Liberty Street in reference to the presence of an individual that had been banned from SCAD property. The individual left before security arrived.

8:17 p.m. — Security observed five students around a fire on the bridge between Turner House and Weston/Dyson. Upon security’s arrival at the scene only one student remained. The student stated that she had accidentally dropped a cigarette on a candy wrapper starting the fire. Since the fire appeared much larger than described by the student, security informed the resident director and took pictures of the area.

11:35 p.m. — Security responded to a room at Turner House in reference to a drug policy violation. Security met with the resident director at the scene. Two students at the room stated that their roommate had departed for the evening and had left drug paraphernalia in the room. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and took possession of the items.

October 8

11:45 a.m. — A SCAD student attempted to enter Gulfstream Center without a valid student ID. When asked for an ID by the security officer, the student ignored then pushed past the officer. A security supervisor responded to the scene and explained the ID policy to the student who then left without further incident.

11:50 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Barnard Village. Sonitrol was notified of the alarm.

12:01 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike was missing from Oglethorpe House. The student stated that she secured the bike to the bike rack at 8 p.m. the night before and realized it was missing when she returned at 11:30 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

1:06 p.m. — Security responded to an “evacuation: alarm at Café SCAD. Upon investigation it was determined that an employee had accidentally activated a pull station.

7:12 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by students cooking in the room.

October 9

12:50 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call involving a SCAD student who had fallen off her bike injuring her right knee. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Saint Joseph Candler Hospital.

3:30 a.m. — Security stopped two male individuals trying to enter Turner House with IDs that did not belong to them. Neither of the individuals would identify themselves but stated that they were given the IDs by the actual owners so that they could enter the building. The IDs were confiscated and the individuals departed without further incident.

4:42 a.m. — Security responded to a alarm at Hamilton Annex. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and Sonitrol was notified for a service call.

7:20 a.m. — Security discovered a flower pot had been broken outside of the Gutstein Gallery. Security notified ABM Janitorial Services for clean up.

4:05 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Montgomery Hall. The alarm restored itself prior to security’s arrival.

5:58 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Hamilton Hall.  The alarm restored itself prior to security’s arrival.

6:52 p.m. — A SCAD student called and requested to be transferred to the on-call counselor.

7:57 p.m. — A SCAD student called and requested to be transferred to the on-call counselor.
