College Security Report, Sept. 1-7, 2008

Sept. 1

9 p.m. A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen her bike from Vinnie Van GoGo’s sometime between 4 p.m.  and  9 p.m. She stated she left the bike unsecured because she had lost her bike lock. Police responded and generated a report.

Sept. 2

12:18 a.m.—The alarm company reported to security that there was a broken glass alarm activated at Evans Hall. Security responded to the scene and performed a patrol of the building. Nothing out of the ordinary was found.

12:18 a.m. —Security discovered graffiti on the wall in front of Pepe Hall. Police were notified of the damage and stated they had a suspect in custody for a similar incident and that the incidents might be related. No other information was available at the time of this report.

Sept. 4

10:30 a.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that his bicycle, valued at $700, was stolen from his apartment at Gaston House between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. on May 29. Police were notified and generated a report.

7:43 a.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Turner House. Upon investigation, the alarm was determined to have been activated by contractors working on the site. The alarm was silenced and reset.

Sept. 5

5:18 a.m.—Security responded to a “low battery” alarm at Kiah Hall. Nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary and the alarm was silenced and reset.

8:40 a.m.—A SCAD staff member reported to security that there were scratches on the third floor door to the special collections area of the Jen Library. She also reported that the printer was used on the first floor at approximately 10 p.m., after the library was closed. Nothing appeared to be taken from the library. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

11 a.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm at Corbin Hall. Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm had been accidentally activated by a janitorial services company employee.

12:14 p.m.—An unknown SCAD student activated the stairwell fire door alarm while exiting the stairwell at Ex Libris. Security responded to the scene and silenced the alarm.

12:50 p.m.—An unknown SCAD student activated the fire door alarm at Café SCAD. Security responded to the scene and silenced the alarm.

7:03 p.m.—A SCAD employee reported to security that there was a snake in a room at Dyson House. Security responded to the scene, but the snake had already been removed from the room prior to security’s arrival.

7:19 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation in room at Turner House. Upon investigation, it was determined that the room was unoccupied and that the smoke detector was removed from the wall and was not functioning properly. A work order was placed for repair of the smoke detector

Sept. 6

9:59 a.m.—Security discovered the front doors of the working class studios at Old Arch were unsecured. A tour of the building was conducted and the door was secured.

2:59 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation in a room at Barnard Village. Upon investigation, it was determined to be a false alarm and the alarm was silenced and reset.

7:11 p.m.—Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Fahm Hall. Upon investigation, it was determined that an unknown staff member had opened the fire door activating its alarm. A tour of the building was conducted and security silenced the alarm and secured the door.

Sept. 7

Noon— An individual reported to security that someone had backed into her vehicle while it was parked at Turner House on Sept. 6 between 11:30.m. and 3 p.m. Police were notified of the incident but did not generate a report.
