College Security Report: Sept. 15-21, 2008
Sep. 15
7:15 a.m.—Security responded to alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the site and determined it was a false alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
6:47 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in a room at Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student boiling water in the room. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and gave the all clear to silence and reset the alarm.
8:44 p.m.—Security discovered the front door to Keys Hall to be unsecured. A patrol of the building was conducted and the door was secured.
9:57 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that his wallet was missing from Café SCAD where he left it unattended. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
Sept. 16
9:12 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Arnold Hall. A SCAD student was complaining of shortness of breath and was possibly having an asthma attack. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to the hospital.
12:16 p.m.—Security was notified of a vehicle accident involving a non-SCAD vehicle that struck an unoccupied parked vehicle that had a SCAD sticker at an off-campus location. Savannah police responded to the scene and generated a report.
6:36 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at a room in Dyson House. Two SCAD students stated that they were play fighting in their room when one of the student’s elbow went through the front window of the room. One student sustained cuts to his right wrist and elbow and the other sustained cuts to his left shoulder and wrist. The resident director was notified of the incident and allowed the students to be driven to the hospital by fellow student instead of calling EMS. Maintenance and the janitorial services company were notified of the situation to provide clean up.
9:35 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her drivers license, SCAD ID and her room access card. She stated that she had last seen the items at 10 a.m. and may have lost them in Wallin Hall.
Sept. 17
9:35 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at the booth of Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined to be a system malfunction. Security silenced the alarm and the alarm company was notified of the situation.
11:45 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Eckburg Hall. A student stated that she was feeling ill. EMS arrived on site and transported the student to Candler Hospital.
1:45 p.m.—Security responded to a vehicle/bike collision at the Gulfstream Center. Police responded to the scene, but the bicyclist did not have any injuries and did not wish to file a police report.
1:55 p.m.—Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Café SCAD. The alarm was silenced and reset by a Café SCAD employee.
8:03 p.m.—Security discovered the entrance gate at the south West corner of Turner House was unsecured. A patrol of the area was conducted and security secured the gate.
Sept. 18
2 a.m.—Security observed four SCAD students in possession of alcohol at Dyson House. Security notified the resident assistant and resident director.
9 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at rooms three rooms at Barnard Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined to be a false alarm and that the smoke detectors needed to be serviced. The alarm was reset and the alarm company was notified of the situation.
9:39 a.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation in a room at Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.
2:08 p.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.
2:49 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that items including a purse, iPod, bank card, drivers license and text books were taken from her vehicle while it was parked at Fahm Hall. She stated that she had parked the car at 11 a.m. and that the items were missing when she returned at 2:30 p.m. There was no sign of forced entry and she stated that she did not remember if she locked her vehicle. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
6:26 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her SCAD ID was missing. She stated that she left her ID on a desk in Wallin Hall at 10:30 a.m. and that it was gone when she returned at 11 a.m.
8:35 p.m.—Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Adler Hall. The door was silenced and secured.
9:23 p.m.—Security responded to duress signal from the call box at Old Arch. Nothing out of the ordinary was observed and the alarm was determined to be false.
Sept. 19
12:24 a.m.—Security discovered the rear door to the courtyard of Corbin Hall was unsecured. Security patrolled the area and secured the door.
12:27 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her 2008 Nissan Altima was damaged while it was parked in the Barnard / Liberty lot. She stated that she parked the vehicle at 11 a.m. on Sept. 19 and that there were scratches on the driver’s side rear door and rim. Police responded to the site and generated a report.
2:30 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that someone threw a rock at his vehicle while he was turning around in front of Barnard Village. He stated that the rock caused a dent in the driver’s side window of the vehicle, but that he did not wish to have police notified.
5:21 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation in a room at Boundary Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student coking in the room. The fire department gave the all clear and the alarm was silenced and reset.
Sept. 20
4:58 a.m.— Security discovered a flower pot in front of Eichberg Hall had been shattered. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
6:51 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Adler Hall. A patrol was conducted of the area and the alarm was determined to be false. The alarm was silenced and reset.
10:50 a.m.—Security discovered an coffee pot on in an Eichberg Hall room. The empty pot was causing a burning smell in the room. Security turned off the pot.
11:37 a.m.—Security discovered the equipment cage at Bergen Hall was unsecured and unattended while students were removing equipment. A SCAD professor stated that she would take responsibility for the cage area.
2:01 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her bicycle was missing from the bike rack in front of Dyson House. She stated that she had secured the bike to the rack at 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 17 and that the bike was gone when she returned at noon on Sept. 20. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
4:31 p.m.—The mother of SCAD student called dispatch and asked for security to drive her daughter to the hospital from an off-campus location because her daughter was hemorrhaging. She was informed that security could not drive her daughter to the hospital but that security could call EMS and have them respond to the scene. She stated that her daughter did not want to be transported in an ambulance and asked if there was any other way to help her daughter. Dispatch called the on call manager who stated that they would handle the situation.
8 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at the concert at Dyson Field. A SCAD student stated that she had briefly passed out. EMS responded to the scene. The student refused medical treatment and returned to the concert.
Sept. 21
1:08 a.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. Upon investigation, the alarm was determined to be false. The alarm was silenced and reset. Savannah Fire Department did not respond to this alarm.
4:15 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that an unknown person was standing near his car at Eichberg Hall. He notified police, who responded to the scene and stated that they would patrol the area. No suspect was found.
5:30 a.m.—A resident assistant requested security response to Turner House for a possible drug policy violation. The R.A. and resident director searched the room and found what appeared to be dried tobacco leaves. The resident director that she would initiate a Student Conduct Report.
1:46 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at room at Boundary Village. Upon investigation, it was determined to be a false alarm. The system was silenced and reset.
