College Security Report: Sept. 22-28, 2008
Sept. 22
2:30 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that her bike was stolen from her off-campus apartment. She stated that her bike was locked on her front porch East 34th Street when it was stolen on the afternoon of Sept. 22. Police responded and generated a report.
4:11 p.m.— A non-student reported to security that his motorcycle was damaged while it was parked at Oglethorpe House. He stated that the rear light of his motorcycle was broken when a bicycle fell on it. He did not wish police to be notified.
5:31 p.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation at room in Barnard Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.
8:30 p.m.—Security was informed of an off-campus vehicle accident involving a SCAD student and an American Coach Line bus. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.
9:15 p.m.—Security discovered that the right side gate arm at Turner Annex had been bent. No cause of the damage could be determined. The gate arm is still functioning normally.
Sept. 23
1:09 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Dyson Field. A SCAD student was suffering from a seizure. EMS transported the student to Candler Hospital.
10:50 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Hamilton Hall. A SCAD student was suffering from a possible Asthma attack. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Heath University Medical Center.
1:52 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she had accidentally left her SCAD ID, dorm room key and vehicle keys on a SCAD bus, while in transit from Turner House to Arnold Hall. The driver of the bus stated another student had taken the items and stated that they would return the items to the owner.
3:35 p.m.—Security responded to a small trash can fire at Habersham Hall. Upon security’s arrival, the fire had already been extinguished by Habersham Hall staff. There was no damage to SCAD property and no fire extinguisher was used.
5:31 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation at room in Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and gave instructions to silence and reset the alarm.
7:39 p.m.—Security responded to call from staff members at Hamilton Hall regarding a squirrel in room 121. Security assisted the staff members in removing the squirrel from the building.
8:12 p.m.—Security discovered an exterior card access door to Arnold Hall was unsecured and not functioning properly. A locksmith responded to the scene and secured the door.
8:45 p.m.—Security responded to a small vehicle fire at Dyson House parking lot. Savannah Fire Department and police responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Fire department officials stated that the vehicle had been in an accident earlier in the day and that the battery came into contact with the front quarter panel causing the car to start smoldering. The owner of the vehicle had the vehicle towed
10:20 p.m.—Security discovered graffiti on the wall of the SCAD Museum of Art next to Turner and Ann streets. Pictures were taken of the property damage.
Sept. 24
3:41 a.m.— Security discovered the soccer field gate at the equestrian center was unsecured. Security patrolled the area and secured the gate.
4:09 a.m.— Security discovered the gate entrance at Physical Resources was unsecured. Security conducted a patrol of the area and then secured the gate.
10:30 a.m.—A SCAD student attempted to gain access to Gulfstream Center with an invalid ID. The ID had been altered in an attempt to make it look like it was valid for this semester. The student left without further incident.
12:29 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that he had been struck by an unknown vehicle while bicycling to class, causing scratches to his left leg. He stated that he did not need medical attention and did not wish to file a police report.
1:50 p.m.—Security observed SCAD student strike a pole with her vehicle at the Wallin parking lot. Police responded to the scene and generated a report. No injuries were reported.

5:59 p.m.—Security responded to a Medical call at Boundary Hall. A SCAD student was complaining of severe menstrual cramping. EMS responded to the scene and suggested that the student return to her room and rest.
8:28 p.m.—Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Gulfstream Center. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a tamper switch problem. The alarm was silenced and reset.
8:45 p.m.—Two SCAD students reported to security that their personal belongings were taken from under a bush at Forsyth park while they were exercising with the ROTC unit. The students stated that they left their belongings (Cell phones, SCAD ids, $12 deodorant and a bottle of Febreze) under the bush near the tennis courts and that the belongings were gone when they returned at 7 a.m.. Some of the items were recovered from a nearby trash can. Police responded to Oglethorpe House and generated a report.
9:39 p.m.—A SCAD student reported to security that she was diabetic and had been throwing up all day and was not feeling well. EMS responded to the scene and, after evaluating the student, transported her to Memorial Health University Medical Center.
10:57 p.m.—Security discovered an exit door at Adler Hall was unsecured and propped open. Security patrolled the area and secured the door.
Sept. 25
1:12 a.m.—Security discovered the main entrance of SCAD Café was unsecured. A patrol of the area was conducted and security secured the door.
9:47 a.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Boundary Hall. A SCAD student had collapsed in class. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Health University Medical Center.
4:15 p.m.—Security responded to a medical call at Turner House. A SCAD student stated that she was injured while riding her horse at the Equestrian Center. She did not wish to have EMS respond.
8:20 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and gave instructions to silence and reset the alarm.
11:52 p.m.—Security responded to Turner House Bridge where a SCAD student was igniting fireworks. The resident assistant and resident director were notified of the situation.
Sept. 26
3:37 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student coking in the room. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and gave instructions to silence and reset the alarm.
8:42 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset.
9:49 p.m.—Security discovered a side door at York Hall was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and secured the door.
Sept. 27
6:55 a.m.—The father of SCAD student reported to security that his daughter was robbed at gunpoint at approximately at 1:30 a.m, on Sept. 27. He stated he was unaware of the exact location of the incident, but would like to have someone contact her daughter because she was traumatized by the incident. The on call manager was notified of the incident and was given the parent’s phone number.
10 a.m.—The father of SCAD student reported to security that his daughter was assaulted at approximately 11 p.m. on Sept. 20, while bicycling at an unknown off-campus location. He asked to speak with a campus security representative regarding how the police were handling the incident. The director of security was notified.
4:29 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene, determined it was false, and instructed security to silence and reset the system.
4:30 p.m.—A SCAD student called security and stated that her friend, another SCAD student, was missing and had not been seen in his dorm since yesterday. She stated that she had made several attempts to reach him by phone and was unable to get an answer. He called security a few hours later and informed security that he was not missing and that he was just not answering his phone.
Sept. 28
4:31 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation in three rooms at Barnard Village. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene, determined the alarm was caused by a system malfunction and instructed security to silence and reset the system.
6:14 a.m.—A SCAD student reported to the security officer at Oglethorpe House that he was not feeling well and had been vomiting. EMS responded to the scene, but the student refused medical treatment and did not want to be transported to the hospital stating that he was feeling better after having vomited.
4:45 p.m.—A SCAD student was entering the Barnard Village lot when the gate arm at the security booth lowered and struck his vehicle cracking the driver’s side of his windshield. The gate arm raised and lowered again, this time striking the top of the vehicle.
7:07 p.m.—Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and instructed security to silence and reset the alarm.
