Crime logs reveal a party-loving campus

The crime logs for SCAD Atlanta and Savannah, January through March, are in. With few exceptions, behavior looks good–as long as we stay away from the liquor and drug violations.
No arrests were made on either campus, regardless of the crime. There were just a lot of reports filed and conduct referrals made.
Substance violations predictably made up the bulk of the 35 crimes logged for Savannah. They were heavy on the liquor: 19 counts in all. Most of these were at the dorms, predictably, with Turner House racking up the most with five and W at the Hive close behind with four. Arnold Hall and the Trustees Theater also saw one violation each.
There were eight drug-related violations, all at the dorms. Montgomery House barely led the pack with three total, Turner House following with two.
There were also three counts of larceny and one count of robbery.
The difference between larceny and robbery isn’t what you steal but how you do it. Larceny or “theft” is the simple act of taking and keeping something of value. Shoplifting falls into this category, though if you break and enter to steal something it becomes burglary. Robbery is the act of forcibly stealing from someone. So, the one robbery at 49th and Montgomery was probably a mugging or a purse- or phone-snatching.
Bobbie’s Diner and Anderson Hall both saw assaults two weeks apart. There was a weapon law violation at Montgomery House and a threat at Oglethorpe House. Since no arrests were made, these more violent crimes probably weren’t serious.
Atlanta only had four reported crimes between January and March: two counts of theft, one “entering auto” and a single alcohol violation at Spring House. Whether this comparative lack of crime is because our Atlanta counterparts are better behaved, better at getting away with things or just because their campus is that much smaller is up for debate.
