District changes course with Port City Review

What’s the point?

What’s the point of creating another literary journal? What’s the point of trying something new when everything has already been done?

In Savannah we have student-produced and school-produced photography magazines, a fashion magazine, a literary magazine, two literary journals for graduates and undergraduates, a former literary arts magazine, not to mention the other start-up publications that come and go with the ebb of funding.

So why us, why now?

We’ve noticed an absence — a clear, neglected void. The embodiment of robust artistic talent is prevalent in every building, throughout every hall. Students’ work in varying mediums are hung, installed, played on small screens, large screens, strutted down runways and flown over airfields.  These works of art need a home of their own, a place where extraordinary talent is archived and passed as a tradition from one class to the next.

That’s why we’ve created Port City Review, an annual journal that highlights student work in every medium: comics, illustrations, motion media and animations, written work, industrial design, fashion lines and accessories, paintings, etchings, sculptures and installations, graphic design logos, ad campaigns and web design. If you’ve designed, built, drawn or written anything for a class or as a side project we want to feature it with our award-winning content.

We are student-run, and editorially independent. We are Port City Review, and this is only the beginning.
