Thursday, Jan. 23

Seashell Exhibit

Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Savannah Area Council of Garden Clubs is sponsoring a seashell exhibition that includes all kinds of seashells from across the world — everything from fossils to shell jewelry. This exhibit is from Mique Pinkerton and C.E. Pinkerton of Wilmington Island.

Jewish Film Festival

Jewish Educational Alliance, times vary
The Joan and Murray Gefen Memorial Savannah Jewish Film Festival is in full swing. On Jan. 23, showings start at 12:30 a.m. and running until 7 p.m., when the double feature “Wherever You Go” and “Dove’s Cry” screens. Tickets cost $10 for nonmembers and optional lunches and dinners are available. The festival ends Feb. 1.

The Art of the Mind Lecture with Virginia Postrel

Arnold Hall, 5 p.m.
Virginia Postrel will discuss her most recent book, “The Power of Glamour: Longing and the Art of Visual Persuasion,” and examine the idea and qualities that define glamour. For more information, go to their event page.

Friday, Jan. 24

Port City Review Reception

Fahm Street Gallery, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
The reception and release party for Port City Review, a journal showcasing the best work from SCAD students, will feature everything from photographs and illustrations to prints and poetry. For more information, go to their event page.

Pierre Gonnord and Wendell Castle Exhibition Receptions

SCAD Museum of Art, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
After a three-month trek through Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi, French photography Pierre Gonnord created this exhibit “Portraying the South,” while Wendell Castle investigates how people’s perception of furniture has changed as the boundaries between art, craft and design merge and evolve. National 2-D Competition Exhibition Reception

Armstrong Fine Arts Gallery, 5:30 p.m.
Artists from across the country submitted photographs, drawings, paintings and prints for this competition at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Local jurors chose 30 finalists from more than 300 submissions. For more information, go to their website.

Memento: Julia Harmon Painting Exhibition Reception

Non-Fiction Gallery, 7 – 10 p.m.
Julia Harmon, a graduate student with a focus in painting, will present more than 80 oil paintings inspired by old family photographs and film. For more information, go to their event page.

The Habitat of Monsters Exhibit

Gallery Le Snoot, 7:30 p.m.

Make A Stand: Design & Build Competition

Southern Pine Co., 2 – 6 p.m.
Learn about woodworking techniques while designing and building magazine stands to support the Maven Makers. A $20 donation provides a T-shirt as well as dinner and drinks. The winners will receive more than $100 in gift certificates. For more information, go to their website.

Broadway or BUST!

Savannah Riverfront Marriott, 6 p.m. – midnight.

Vinyl Appreciation Night
