District reaches out

By Tiffany Cullen

As some of you may have noticed, District is changing. The Web site is being updated to make it more streamlined with easier navigation. This is just the beginning of new changes to make District better and more accessible to you.

Since its inception, District has won numerous awards and recognitions for reporting, photography, comics and advertising. Students taking the opportunity to apply their creative talents have made District the success it is today.

District’s new editor in chief’s vision is to progressively improve the site so that it always remains relevant with up-to-date campus and local news as well as entertainment venues that have importance in a student’s life. We also want to have the information brought to you in a more interactive form of media.

District’s move from print to digital confused and disenfranchised some students who followed the paper on a weekly basis.

Now District is taking an active stance on getting those readers back in the habit of using District as their voice on educational and social issues that concern all students.

As the student newspaper, District’s first responsibility is to be the voice of the student population. Many students, both continuing and incoming, are not aware of District’s continuation to report stories on subjects that matter to students. Many feel District has strayed from its primary objective: to be the student voice of SCAD.

Now, in an effort to widen its readership, District has added several new features to keep students actively involved and updated on the stories and weekly columns that matter. Check out District’s page on Facebook or follow District on Twitter at http://twitter.com/scaddistrict.

In addition to these new communication outlets, District will also take a more visible role in the student community by participating in student events and holding opinion polls both digitally and on-site to respond to student concerns. With these additions, students can freely communicate their opinions and concerns as well as giving feedback to our staff members.

A major way to execute these measures is through the new position of Outreach Editor. In this position, I am here to make District more open and responsive to students and their suggestions or concerns.
