Dorm Dining: Sugar Cookies
Written by Grace Baines
As finals creep up on us, our stress levels tend to rise to unheard levels. So, as a possible solution, I will remind you all that baking can make you feel better. And if it doesn’t, baked goods will. But, with time cramped enough as is, a low effort-baking project might be the best option. Cookies are very easy to make and sugar cookies are not only good cooked, but the dough is fairly delightful as well (disclaimer: eating uncooked dough can get you sick with certain food borne diseases, then again, so can sushi). So study hard bees! And if you have 30 minutes to spare, tie on your apron; it’s cookie time!
Ingredients and Tools
- large Mixing Bowl
- large spoon
- cookie Sheet
- Baker’s Joy Baking Spray
- 2 ½ cups of all purpose flour
- 1 cup white sugar
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ fine grain sea salt
- 1 cup soft butter (unsalted)
- 2 tablespoon whole milk
- 2 tablespoon vanilla extract
Preparation
- Set oven to 350oF
- Mix together flour, sugar, baking soda and salt.
- Add in the butter, milk, and vanilla and slowly mix together to form the dough. If it’s refusing to mix with the spoon, wash your hands well and use your hands as the mixers with a kneading motion.
- To make perfectly round cookies roll the dough into logs, wrap them in wax, parchment, or even tracing paper –we’re art students, after all– and freeze for anywhere between two hours to two days. Cut into cookies and bake until golden brown.
- For those of us less patient, roll balls of dough and place on greased cookie sheet and pop into the oven until golden brown.
