For weeks, “Dune” has been the object of so many people’s curiosity. While the internet’s been ablaze with talk about stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, the world their characters inhabit would never have been possible without the combined efforts of Donald Mowat and Theo Green.
Mowat, makeup and hair designer, and Green, sound designer for “Dune,” walked the red carpet to discuss their involvement with the film following a screening of the film and Q&A.
The pair discussed what it’s like to collaborate on a film generating so much hype, offering insights into the world of high-profile cinema. As well, both offered advice for students just entering the world of filmmaking and the importance of taking time to understand your field.
“It’s just getting the opportunity to try, to practice your craft,” Mowat said. “You have to practice all the time,” Mowat said.
Likewise, Green had further advice to give for sound designers, stressing the affordability of the medium and how it creates opportunities to experiment. “You need ideas,” Green said. “You need to be passionate about film, and you need to have been thinking about how sound is created through layers.”
