Essentials for the Perfect Quarter in Lacoste

A year ago today, I was exploring Lacoste with the SCAD Photography department. Though I had an incredible time, I felt completely unprepared for the challenges the trip brought. Now, as I reflect on my wonderful European adventure, I’ve compiled some of the top items that were lifesavers for my friends and I during our time abroad.
- Must-Have Apps
Omio: The perfect app for booking cheap flights, trains, bus rides and ferries!
Whatsapp: A free messaging and video calling app often used by Europeans and visitors.
Splitwise: Helps you keep track of what all of your friends have paid for throughout your trips, making sure everyone is reimbursed evenly!
Hostel Hop: Budget-friendly hostel booking app with a credit system as you book.
- Lightweight Carry-On Backpack
On weekends in between your studies, you’ll want to take advantage of your ability to travel to places outside of campus! A versatile backpack will be your perfect travel companion, with compartments to safely store your laptop, several changes of clothes, shoes and all your necessary toiletries. Whether you’re planning quick weekend getaways or extended adventures, a carry-on backpack will be your reliable travel partner throughout your journey.
Here is one a friend of mine highly recommends.
- Versatile Purse That Fits All Your Belongings
When studying abroad, having a truly adaptable purse is essential. You’ll want to look for a purse that serves as both a crossbody and a shoulder bag, making it perfect for every occasion you’ll encounter. A thoughtfully designed bag should offer ample space for all your daily necessities, more than a phone-keys-wallet purse.
- Easy Drying Bath Towels
If you’re sharing a bathroom with lots of people in a dorm, a thin bath towel will prevent mildew and musty odor. Some lightweight towels are a bit less soft than one might like, so I recommend keeping an eye out for a soft and comfortable feel against your skin while still being practical for daily use.
- Handy Microwaveable Bowl
Unfortunately, many Lacoste dorms do not have kitchens included. If you want some variety from the dining hall like I did, this microwaveable bowl will help you cook up easy meals in your dorm. It also features a lid with a vent, making it perfect for steaming fresh vegetables or keeping your morning oatmeal warm on the go. Here’s an example.
- Comfortable and Stylish Shoes for Walkable Cities
Fact of the matter is, you’re going to be walking a lot in Europe. In Lacoste, a lot of that walking will be up and downhill. If you don’t want your feet to be in pain at the end of the day, you’ll need some stylish boots made for walking. Lennox boots offer an excellent solution. While they’re technically engineered for hiking, their design makes them versatile enough for any occasion. I found that these boots seamlessly transition from casual daytime exploration to evening events, ensuring you’re well-prepared for whatever your journey might bring!
