Finding Out About Flowers

Springtime in Savannah feels like contemplating the many splashes and strokes in a watercolor painting, and nowhere is more vivid and magical than around Forsyth Park. As we welcome the arrival of a new season, the city bursts into bloom with vibrant azaleas, unique Chinese fringe trees and delicate dogwood blossoms. Beyond their beauty, each flower evokes a meaning, symbolism or personality that can help locals and visitors feel more immersed in the city’s Southern charm. During the months of March through May, there is much to learn and appreciate from the beautiful trees and plants that bring life to Savannah.
So sit down, relax, and come along in a visually-rich walk through Forsyth Park’s Garden of Fragance, a tranquil and hidden garden that is strategically secluded from the all the laughs and fun in the rest of the park. Initially founded in 1963 to cater visitors with visual impairments, today the Garden of Fragance offers an enchanted, sensory experience through textured flowers and plants with distinctive scented leaves.

Micaela is a Graphic Design major at SCAD, with minors in Animated Illustration and Publication Design. She loves doodling in her sketchbook, designing stickers, and as a proud Peruvian, she’s all about good food. When she’s not managing the website and graphics as District’s Creative Director, you might find her in a barre or spin class—usually grabbing a Savannah Bananza smoothie right after.
