A Few Funky Holidays to Add to Your Spring Quarter Calendar

We’re past the halfway point of the infamous 21-week quarter. A SCAD spring break typically feels like putting a bandaid on when you’re bleeding out. Nevertheless, we persist and we create. To implement some extra days dedicated to doing something fun, here are three out of the ordinary holidays to celebrate this spring.

April 24: Scream Day

Screaming has been used as a therapeutic technique for centuries across many cultures. With National Scream Day falling right around spring quarter midterms, you might be due for some stress relief. Grab a pillow or go for a drive and take some time to scream your heart out. Hopefully it’ll re-energize you to finish the quarter strong.

May 9: Sleepover Day

Sleepovers used to be the best way to spend a Friday or Saturday night, but the art has died out since adolescence. National Sleepover Day was started as a marketing campaign in 2017 for bareMinerals to advertise a powder product that was “safe to sleep in.” There’s no need to include makeup or marketing in your sleepover though. All you need is your best friends, favorite stuffed animals and a classic throwback movie.

May 30: Hug Your Cat Day

With spring quarter ending on May 29, International Hug Your Cat Day falls at a perfect time in our academic calendar. Whether you’ve made the journey home and get to see your family cat for the first time in ages, or you’re staying in town for commencement, give your cat a big hug to celebrate all you’ve accomplished this quarter! Warning: most cats are not aware of the holiday and may be opposed to receiving hugs. District is not liable for any injuries caused by scratches or swipes on Hug Your Cat Day.

Leah is a writing major at SCAD. Outside of District she works as a Sports Information Assistant with SCAD Athletics. She loves exploring all things SCAD and sharing her experiences with the student body. When not working you can find her in her hammock at Forsyth, swimming at Tybee Island, or going on any adventure she’s invited to.
