Fresh Advice: Transportation
From a sophomore student looking back at his freshman year at SCAD comes Fresh Advice, the run down on all of the SCAD programs, operations and secret tricks you need to know to make a smooth transition to SCAD life.
Freshmen at SCAD have a plethora of transportation options. The most common option is to use the free bus service that is offered.
The first week or two of the fall quarter will have some issues, but the buses do improve throughout the quarter. During the first two weeks, I recommend being at the bus stop an hour prior to your class, until the buses smooth out. In addition, figuring out what bus route you need ahead of time and downloading the Rider app by TransLoc will lead to your success using the SCAD Bee Line. If you choose to bring your own car to campus make sure you get a 2017-2018 parking pass. Freshmen will not be able to park at any location on campus other than the Hive’s parking garage. You can drive your car to class and gamble parking on the street but parking in Savannah can be tricky. Be aware of where you park and make sure you are legally parked.
SCAD offers a bike share program which allows you to ride for four free hours for every day, and four dollars per every additional hour. Download the SoBi app by Social Bicycles to register and view bikes around the campus. Upon renting a bike make sure you park it at a SCAD bike hub, located at many academic and residence buildings, or you may be fined.
Enterprise CarShare has a partnership with SCAD which can allow you to rent a car starting at $5 an hour. If you’re interested in renting a car, you will need to register for the program here.
