Get down at “THE DISCO SHOW”

Written by Rainé Eliza

Anyone who thinks boogie is dead is in luck, because this weekend “THE DISCO SHOW” is ready to woogie.

Psychic Mirrors, a Miami-based, 10-piece disco group, is coming to Dollhouse Productions on the night of March 30 and promises show-goers “modern boogie jams,” created by their “horn section, vocals, and an army of synths” to emulate a 1980’s funk style.

Elev8ed Urban Supply Company is teaming up with Safe//Sound to promote the event.

The members at Elev8ed are “stoked” to be involved and help promote the budding arts scene in Savannah. “We are definitely excited about the music that is going to play at the show. We’re hoping this will snowball into something bigger than we’ve ever expected.”

Elev8ed is currently offering $6 pre-sale tickets for the event ($2 off the door price) in order to secure a big turnout for the event. And the music doesn’t stop with Psychic Mirrors – the Miami Players Club and Dreamboat will also be in attendance to ensure a non-stop night of dancing.

The Miami Players Club is composed of six DJs (Arun Brown, Benton, Stevezzy, Edg4r, Erick Rojas, and Mickey de Grand IV) who all “aim to rekindle their city-deep-love affair with boogie” through their skills on the turntable.

And while the partying ensues, Emily Earl will document the event photo-booth style behind the lens of her Polaroid.

“I’ll be doing the Polaroid photo booth … [and] selling the Polaroids for $5 a piece. I’m super stoked on this new venue [Dollhouse Productions]. I think Peter and Blake Mavrogeorgis, the owners, are really amazing people, and they’re bringing something to this city that has been lacking for quite awhile.”

The booth itself will be clad in tinsel to bring just the right amount of sparkle-glam to the show. “I’m always interested to meet new people and just see lots of beautiful faces and outfits … I’m expecting a great dance night and a unique opportunity to hear something new, plus I love a good horn section,” says Earl, who got the gig through her connections with Safe//Sound.

Earl attributes much of what’s currently happening in the art community to Safe//Sound’s work in Savannah, from house shows, to events at venues downtown, including The Sparetime and their own space off East Broad Street.

Savannah can thank Miami’s boogie and disco label Cosmic Chronic for bringing this show to town. Hopefully show-goers can return the favor by getting down with the get down Saturday night.

The event kicks off at Dollhouse Productions at 9 p.m. For more information, including ticket purchases, visit the event’s Facebook page.
